I am looking at a 2006 Grand Prix GT. However, on the engine cover it does not actually say "supercharged" like some that I have seen. Does this mean that the GT model is not supercharged or is there a way I can tell? Thanks!

On the left side of the engine cover for the SC model, it'll be pointed and you'll see a pulley. No pulley.. no charger.

GM's marketing department messing things up. Does it have a sun roof and monsoon sound system? That could make it a GT. It would be a GTP if it had a supercharger.
The following year the GTP was dropped for just GT (supercharged) base (n/a) and GXP (V8)

It is the 2006 special edition. It does have a moon roof also. I thought the special edition was automatically a GT. However, the GT is said to have a 260 hp engine. I am confused if the supercharge makes it 260 hp or if the supercharge just adds onto that hp? I don't really want the 200 hp engine.

The special edition could come both ways. S/C and N/A. It was an appearance only package.

Wrong. 2006 and 2007 GT's were supercharged. Having a sunroof and monsoon does not make it a GT either. My supercharged GT has neither a sunroof or monsoon.

Since you can see it in person have the dealer remove the engine cover. See a Gen V blower, then there's your answer. If they balk at it tell them you want to check for oil/coolant leaks.

The engine cover says Supercharged on it if it is supercharged, and you can't miss the snout and pulley.

I believe the 2006 - 2007 Grand Prix GT became the "GTP" model. The 2006 - 2007 Grand Prix GT however did NOT always come supercharged. Most places bought these cars for "fleet" purposes and they are usually the GT's that came non-supercharged. So when looking for a supercharged Grand Prix, you really have to look at the engine. Or, even just driving the car you should be able to hear the whine of the supercharger. If you're not sure what you're looking for, you can always google what the supercharged engine looks like. =P

Wrong. ALL 2006 and 2007 GT's were supercharged.
In 2006 the GT became the base, the GTP became the GT. You could still get a loaded "base" but it was going to have the NA engine.
Go to any website where you have to enter info about your car and if you put in that you have a 2006 or 2007 Grand Prix GT it brings up that you have the supercharged 3.8.

Silly GP owners.
Damn W bodies didn't even get a real motor until 97 when the rest of the GM fleet had it in 96.
Here's how it goes and since I'm BillBoost you can bank on this.
97-04 GTP was charged
06+ the GTP name was dropped and GT was then charged
I am pretty sure 05 is a confused convoluted year.
I have in person seen an 03 Comp G, which supposedly wasn't built until 04. Production date on the door was 02/03, registration also was an 03 and that's based on the title.
So to sum things up ... SSEi does not actually stand for anything, Riviera didn't have a separate version/model level when it was charged, in 98 a whole pile of GM mid level cars had the 3800 while all other years they had smaller 3100/3400 motors, GP's were the only ones to get a Gen V blower and overall if you don't have cheat sheets .....you'll never keep track of all this crap.
