Jesus degrease that bay!
|
ive used a lot of the parts store sold cleaners, engine foamy brite works good, but i found that crc engine degreaser works just as well if not better with out the smell afterwards.
what ever you get, buy 2 cans, you'll need it. put the car on ramps, spray underneath first, get the tranny from the pass side wheel well, and from in between the engine and tranny, oil pan , up the sides of the block to the headers. you get the picture. lol
then spray the top side down. get a old paint brush to scrub any thick areas.
i say buy 2 cans, because 1 is never enough. sucks when you run out. it goes fast.
as far as hosing it off, hose everything. the only thing to cover or remove is a open cone filter if you have one. take it off, then use a bag and a rubber band to cover the TB opening.
Just like any other part. Make sure to clean it as best as you could, tape up where you don't want paint to go. Primer, then paint with something like engine enamel.
not sure what year you got there, but if the maf is in the TB take it out, then use throttle body cleaner, or carb cleaner will work.
dont spray the maf with anything but maf cleaner.
for paint use a high heat paint, like caliper paint.
scott Its an 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix.
And I'm gonna save some fun for tomorrow I think I did a good job so far today ripping this thing apart it's not easy for a rookie like myself lol tomorrow's about cleaning the **** out of it and praying I can put this thing back together lol
just clean the v/c's up when they are off. (inside and out) dry them off, then let them sit in the sun to dry up.
after its back together and running, then de grease the engine and tranny and walls of your engine bay. you dont want water to get inside the engine.
you can also spray the rad and condenser with de greaser, then hose it off from the inside towards the bumper, lots of bugs and dirt get stuck in the fins over the years.
04 your maf is in the tube, no need to remove any sensors to clean the TB.
I wonder if there is a way you can flush the system without the new rad in place? I'd hate to have a brand new clean radiator and then cram it full of the old sludge on startup, ya know? The rad was leaking so I bought a new one today along with a new condenser, I'm still gonna flush it tho, this gunk is everywhere
put the garden hose on full in the lower hose, take the t stat out, take the upper hose off the rad, start the car, do this till clear clean water comes, out, and then a little longer.
Worst case make a small nozzle attachment for your vac using some rubber hose. Just duct tape the heck out of one end to the shop vac and go at it. As long as you don't drop anything else down the intake or exhaust runners in the motor (like a bolt, lol...) then you're fine.
Might be a good idea to take rags and gently stuff them into all the intake and exhaust ports on the block just to avoid any unwanted junk getting in there. Also be sure to clean out the valley before you re-install the LIM.
Ok I've Been completed this Job but I've had one problem since then, this vac leak, it doesn't seem to effect the idle or drive in any way but the problem is that I can't pinpoint it. it's somewhere below the throttle body near the bottom of the intake and it's not the air box or related as far as I know, and since the cars been down because of a broken rack body I've decided to mess around with it a bit. So far I've come up with nothing and in addition to my troubles also as soon as I started the car I got smoke from the engine.. Closer inspection shows a wet section of the front of my engine by the headers, hopefully that's the valve cover that I never took care of but I'm not too sure, I just hope it's nothing that would lead me to take apart the intake again..
Watch the video and tell me what you think
