soo im planning on buying a k&n Generation II FIPK and i was wondering if that is a good idea. also i raced fourwheelers for a while and i used to cut holes in the airbox lit. i was wondering if it would be a bad idea to drill holes in the stock airbox lid in my 2000 gtp. like before the air filter so it still doesnt suck in dirt...good or bad idea? any input is greatly appreciated

If you like the brand name and you wanted the look of the K&N, thats fine, you can spend $300 on a intake...

IMO, get yourself a FWI (fenderwell intake) and many people make them out of PVC pipe and a couple 45* bends. The filter would then sit in the hole inside the fender where your stock box sits now.

And yes, some people do cut (or GUT) the stock air box and attach a cone filter inside it. I'd just do the fenderwell while you can. Cheap, easy, and you can do it for less than $100, filter included. I would then take the money saved and buy a 180* T-Stat, colder plugs (autolite 104's are good) and get rid of the u-bend (or buy a full 3" Downpipe Combo)...thats just my 2 cents...

Well you're going to choke it down to about 3" at the throttle body so much is over that is hard to justify. Additionally, there are a few things to be said about the velocity of the air as well. However, if you go with 4" tube, then you will have to reduce it to the size of the throttle body as it enters there and that will cause some stacking at that point and should keep the velocity up there.

I ran just a short 4" intake on mine and never had any issues from it, well nothing other than it wasnt shielded in anyway from engine bay heat like the FWI.

If you not in the mood of building your own intake, check out TDC's fwi int the classfieds. Great product for a good price.

That exactly why my intake came with 4" ducting.
