    I would think you would be more in the power band and thats why you would get the kick that you do.

    3 to 1 or 2 to 1 downshift = feeling of massive torque since your RPMS want to be back up where they were, the motor will rev quick.

    Rolling from 1 to 2 won't feel this way since your motor is climbing from a lower RPM.

    It comes down to one of Newton's laws "An object in motion tends to stay in motion". Your changing the amount of acceleration at a greater interval when flooring it at 35 the easing into WOT in first gear. Possible make sense? If not let me know and ill try to explain better.
