That sucks.
Only if you neglect it and didn't do it right.
If it was totally built from a bare block...and the mains weren't line bored...then lol, yup. 300~ mile miracle.

Re: SO I put 300 miles on the new engine and now it has a knock/tap sound, kill me.
Also I just remembered while turning the crank pulley to do the flex plate bolts that the engine jammed and we had to use a huge breaker bar to make it start spinning again

Re: Built motor is blown and buying a L26 for now and moving all my things to it
Picking up an L26 with 55k on it from a place in NJ Friday, I am moving my top end, cam, and timing chain over to the L26 taking my broken built motor to get repaired/redone. I was thinking of running a 3.3 or 3.5 pulley on this, the Gen 5 has a 3.0 on it now.
I figured I would get the built block done store it in my basement beat up on the L26 for a summer and swap in my new junk next April

Sell me your broken short block.

Re: Built motor is blown and buying a L26 for now and moving all my things to it
ill sell you everything under the hood including the trans and another crank for $2000 obo if you provide a WORKING trans and come help me install the trans and engine in the car so I can trade it in.
I get more and more annoyed with this car as the hours go by

it's part of the challenge Justin. When it's finally done, you'll look back and laugh about it. If it were easy, we would be ricers :D

Re: Built motor is blown and buying a L26 for now and moving all my things to it
Is there anything I need to do with this JY engine? can I just bolt all my crap up/in to it? I only want to remove the heads ans nothing else if I can get away with that.

Re: Built motor is blown and buying a L26 for now and moving all my things to it
oh and this is an ACTUAL PART of the conversation I had with one of the owners of the machine shop.
MS:"is this the car that was going to have a blower on it?"
Me: "yes"
MS: mmmmmmmmmmmmmhhhhhhhhhhhmmmmmmm, and you didn't beat on it?
Me: "NO."
MS: "and you say you put 300 miles on it in just 4 days?
Me: "YES WHY DOES IT MATTER THE NUMBER OF DAYS vs MILES?!"
MS: "I'll have peter call you tomorrow we need to discuss about this."

Re: Built motor is blown and buying a L26 for now and moving all my things to it
Yup sounds like a easy excuse not to redo the work. Shouldn't matter how many miles you put on it in X amount of days as long as you weren't beating on it.

Re: Built motor is blown and buying a L26 for now and moving all my things to it
Yes, everything will bolt up to your L26. I just did it in a 99 GT. L26 bottom, Gen III top swap, cam... Easy peasy
Cam will require you to pull the timing cover, if you swap cam.
Sorry to hear about your motor... I debated on getting my L36 rebuilt and I about pooped myself when the machine shop told me how much... LMAO I said just do the heads, I'll make a coffee table for the garage out of the block...

I am going to try to get a full or partial refund and just send the broken block to intense so they can tell me exactly what broke and fix it.

Thats what I was going to do as i was already top swapped but found the chipped pistons. What size pulley do you run and which cam? I have the intense stage 2 blower cam with supporting mods and I was going to run a 3.3, I have a 3.5 and 3.0 that could also be used.

I'm running a ported Gen III with a 3.4 pulley, XP Cam, Headers, 0 KR. Bought my L26 from a local salvage yard, very low mileage, came with the VIN to verify. So far, I'm pleased.
