I hope they have a motor in the off limits area, I walked that yard a week or so ago, the only GTP I found had fire damage.

Did everyone completely ignore FordMan77? Lots of 3800's have had white smoke coming out of the exhaust because of the intake manifold/manifold gaskets failing. He did just say white smoke, no noises mentioned.

@ 02navyblue, its missing out, spuddering sounds horrible with white smoke...besides with 240,000 miles would it really be worth repairing?!

It would be missing and sputtering if it's trying to burn coolant and fuel at the same time. If it's not making any knocking noises in the bottom end then I'd bet it's just fine other than some gaskets.

And as far as mileage is concerned, as long as the motor has been well maintained I wouldn't hesitate to tear it down and replace the gaskets. These motors are known to go well past 300K.

I don't know you're budget and time available, but if I would have to pay $800 for a used motor, then pay someone else another $500 to drop it in I would say it could be worth it considering you could get away for around $300-$400 (shop costs) for the LIM and assoc. gaskets/fluids. As long as the oil is still looking good and no odd noises then 2 oil changes, new gaskets, coolant flush and off you go. Just my .02. I've never had to pay a shop so it seems foreign to me to drop that much on a motor and have it be stock in the end, lol...
