I have a 1999 grand prix gtp, and ive been told that there's a bearing going bad in the supercharger snout and i was wondering if it would be cheaper to rebuild it or just to buy a new/used one off of ebay

It is probably your coupler, cheap and easy fix
Eaton - EATON Replacement Coupler #ETN-30858
Yeah
How would i find out whether it is or not?
More than likely its the coupler. Take it apart and see if the holes are oblong, they should be a perfect circle.
if it isnt the coupler and is one of the bearings consider looking at upgrading to a GenV M90 instead of buying another Gen3. Thats what I did when my bearings went out in mine. Good excuse to upgrade. This is asuming you have mods or want more performance anyway.
Easiest way to confirm a bad coupler is to take the belt of the supercharger and with your hand check for play.
Is it bad/dangerous for me to drive my car if the coupler/bearing is going bad?
Been told by whom? What's their experience with the 3800 & s/c's? Like everyone has said, it's probably just the coupler, I had the sound too when I got my GTP.
Its a $30 fix... To change the snout oil and the coupler. Go for it, will take about an hour to do. Worst thing is you wasted $30 and an hour of your time, best thing is you saved big $$$![]()
