Hey guys i just bought a 1998 grand prix gtp and the coupler in the super charger needs changed but i was wondering if the coupler being bad would give me a p0300 random misfire code?

    No.

All the coupler is going to do is give a tumbling rocks at idle sound along with play in the pulley.

    P0300 is ignition related. Plugs/wires/coils/ICM...

the coils should work, not sure about the icm.

but a tune up would also be first, most common thing to fix for misfires. what kind of mileage do you have?

Plugs/wires/coils/ICM are all the same as long as it is a 3800.

did he tell you when it was last done? if not, change the plugs and wires.

rule one of buying a used car is, if you have no records, do all the regular maintenance so you have a record. tune up, oil, trans fluid as well. and check how much brakes you have left.

    I'd do...yeah, what scotty said.

Get a new coupler for the blower, obviously...new fluid as well. I'd tear apart the top end and do a coolant flush/oil change/LIM & blower gaskets/metal coolant elbows/plugs/wires/clean coil terminals/clean ICM/new fuel filter/brake pads/rotors/PCV valve/check for vac leaks...seafoam it.

    Then enjoy.

    DO NOT flush the trans.

Just do a pan drop and change the filter.

lim gaskets should be done as well. look where the lower intake bolts to the heads, if you see a silver gasket, you good to go, but if you see a black gasket, its the old style plastic gasket, and just for safety should be changed.

and X2 on the pan drop only, DO NOT FLUSH IT. you have way high miles for a flush.

Before you start replacing parts why not scan it and see exactly which cylinders are misfiring?

i meant to say 194,000 kilometers. but still that's still kind of high, anyway i think it may be plug wire's cause the obd code goes from a random misfire to cylinder 1 or 3 so im getting new plugs and wires monday.

ok since my last post i got new plugs and wires, i erased the misfire code and the car worked great for 2 day's then the codes came back. it's weird, first the code gave me a random misfire code then i erased it then came back with a cylinder 1 misfire then back to random. the codes are jumping back and forth. I took some videos of the reader we have at work of the data streams if someone want to take a look at them and see if anything odd comes up. Sorry for the camera focusing in and out. oh and this is with the cylinder 1 misfire code on and the engine idling.

well to day i decided to try swapping #3 injector withe #5 and still the getting the cylinder 3 misfire and also did a compression test with all cylinders were around 110. do you guys think maybe the pcm might be the problem cause in my engine data 1 video cylinder #3 keeps resetting or is that normal. Tomorrow ill spray for leaks around the intake and vacuum lines.

    Please dont flush the trans.

    Listen to them.

I was one of the guys that did flush the trans, it went out 3 months later.

Had to get it rebuilt, learn from my mistake.
