The car had a spacer in it and when removed spacer I put new grade 8 bolts in. One snapped off that was closest to the firewall on bottom of throttle body. Tried to EZ out it, wouldn't work. Tried to drill and tap it and appears I messed it up because couldn't get heli coil to thread in great... My question is, how deep can I drill it safely? It seems unlikely but can I drill straight through? Any one measure the depth often hole?

worst comes to worst do I pull supercharge and have a shop tap it? Is pulling it a big pain? Just need new gaskets when put it back in?

    any help appreciated!

Did it snap off flush with the supercharger? Or can you take the rest of teh bolts off, remove the throttle body then use some vice grips to take it out?

I drilled it out and put a heli coil in... But I didn't know how deep I could safely go so I didn't get as much thread value as I could. I'd love to be able to drill straight through and put nut on back but I'm doubting that's possible. Has anyone ever measured how deep the "hole" is for that bolt?

take out one of the other bolts and stick a tooth pick in it.. mark it then measure the tooth pick where you marked it... that way you know how deep you need to drill

Is both bottom bolts the same length? The upper one is straight through so didn't know if bottom two was same

All three of the studs are the same length. I think it's around 1/2".

Wondering why you were using a grade 8 bolt on a TB and how much force it took to break that. That's a lot of pressure.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

The scary thing is I barely put any pressure on them... In no way should it have snapped even being the cheapest bolt made.... As for grade 8 I buy them for anything car related even if not really a concern

This is why you don't use grade 8s on parts that don't need them. But I'm really surprised you broke a grade 8 bolt before stripping aluminum threads, the torque is only suppose to be like 7-11 ftlb there.
