Looking at doing a small build on my wifes 04 compg . Its still our DD/Family car and dont really wanna do a cam right now. so far the build plan is as follows

    HS 1.9 rr
    SD headers
    42.5# injectors
    ZZP stage 2 intercooler
    HPtuners
    CAI
    3.0 pulley
and all the supporting mods (180 t stat, 104's, 90lb springs, ect)

now question is, being that the cam is the limiting factor, how much power can we make with this set-up? I am fully capable of doing a Port and polish on both the LIM and heads if it would help. I dont know if digging in that deep and P&P then heads/LIM would be worth it on a stock cam car? maybe good for a slightly smaller pulley (2.7ish)? dont ask why i dont want to cam the car as there is not a really good answer. i guess i just dont want to go that far yet.

Wow, even with everything else, cam really holds them back that much?

yes. lol. i doubt youd even reach 300 on a stock cam unless you went turbo.
i still dont understand why you wouldnt cam put youd P&P your heads and LIM?

i doubt you will even hit 300whp on that setup without a cam.

    300chp youll acheive.

well damn, i just didn't realize that the stocker held it back that bad. OK what about this, with the above mods stated, what cam would be the best to get me to say 350 WHP? is that even possible with that setup? and i know its stupid to be asking for power and mpg but what kids of mpg are you guys getting out of cammed cars?

If your going though the trouble of pulling the everything off including the heads, then why not just cam it..your already there and its what like 5 more steps. Youll have to repeat the whole process over again if you do want to cam it later, which you will once you get it all back together and see theres not that much of a power difference without it

    cam, intercooler, heads.

The M90 sucks that much, not the cam.

There are apparently some magic tricks that can be performed to get past 350, like race gas. But people don't like to disclose those tricks.

    Have you ever done either?

Heads are pretty easy and straight forward compared to a cam.

    Unless you pull the engine.

    300 chp is easy.

I made more than that on a gen III and L67 TB.

1.9 rockers and an intercooler will do 310-320whp high end.... And realistically it will probably be faster overall as the power curve will be a bit more flat. Cam will add another 20-25whp on top of that... and heads will add ??? on that.

Switching out the roller tip rockers for modded stock 1.9's will probably give you another 20whp.

I guess i just need to settle for what i have, I already have the 1.9's, Headers and injecters waiting to go on. I have a racecar and was hoping i could pep this up a bit so my wife could have some fun with it when we go racing. but at the same time i am not looking at starting another racecar project out of our daily. if i could snag 300-320 flywheel out of the that set-up with stock cam then i could prob live with that.....for now lol

It will easily make that. In fact I'd be disappointed if that was all it made.
