Hard to tell you anything then.

If it still runs normal and is not losing coolant, it should be fine.

bad cat would smell like rotten eggs... the only sweet smell i know of is coolant and if its just a slight wiff then it would probably take some time before you would notice a coolant leak... check around where your lim meets the heads and see if theres any coolant there if not the head gasket is about your only option for that symptom

^ Bad cat always smells like Sulfur or Rotten Eggs. Coolant is the only sweet smell unless you have a 5spd swap car in which it could be clutch lol.

Being a 97 I would bet you need to replace the LIM Gaskets, headgaskets are RARELY ever problematic, and if that was the case you'd know. It would run like crap, oil/coolant would be milkshaking it up in the oil pan, and other symptoms would show. Most GPs need the LIM gaskets replaced and show few symptoms of it until something major happens. Being that factory gaskets were a "plastic" style they end up failing over time. The Felpro/AcDelco Replacements are metal with rubber seals to keep from causing problems later down the road. If you use the search bar up top (very top magnifying glass in the middle) and search for "lower intake manifold" or "LIM Gaskets" and use the (") for any word less than 4 characters and you can see multiple threads on the problems it causes and how to replace them. There is a video 33 mins long of how to do it step by step I would look for it you decide to do it, its very helpful.
