    Hey guys,

2004 GTP 158km, new belt (dayco) installed in december. new power steering pump and rack done about 2 months ago... last night i heard pieces of belt flinging around... Popped the hooded, main serp belt inside had pieces coming off, basically lost inside *towards engine* of 1 whole rib backing. Picked up a new belt today (goodyear) and installed it... tensioner seems good and is tight, but i thought it might be a loose pulley causing this.. all pulleys seem pretty snug except little play found on power steering pulley.. Is this normal? I took it back to the clown that did the job and he says alittle play is normal it needs it? His guess is it was caused by the belt not being installed on properly (which he had off last)... I'm not buying it, so just looking for help and advice if anyone can help that would be great! its running fine and looks good just looking for what might have caused this belt to go so soon... Thanks in advanced

lol there should be no play at all on your pulleys, wtf? they only thing that should move is your tensioners. dude messed something up, either the PS pulley or the pump shaft.

p/s pump pulley should be tight. no side to side play at all.

are you talking about the p/s pump? its press on and pull off only, nothing else hold it on.

the threads in the end of the shaft is for the puller.

post the pic you took, lol

Check for play and look to see if any pulleys are put of line or wobbling when the engine is running. (keep your hands clear when running obviously)

took a video of it running, everything seems okay nothing is way way out or whobbling... but when I get the pulley off the p/s pump... its moves and makes some noise, added the videos to dropbox link above... its obviously too loose just wondering best way to fix this properly...
    thanks guys

the new pump comes with not pulley, you take the old one off and put it on the new pump.

you need a power steering pulley puller. they sell them at the parts store.

they may even have them for rental. not like you really pay, just leave a deposit for the tool, and get a full refund when you return it.

and heres how you use it. you dont need a vise.

you need a new pump, its the shaft moving like that, not the pulley. you need to re use your pulley on the new pump, thats why you need the puller tool.

and you need to remove the pump to get the pulley off.

jack the car up, remove pass side tire, remove the 2 lines off the pump from the wheel well, one is a clamp on a hose, the other is a line nut into the pump. have a bucket to catch the fluid, as its all coming out when you take the lines off.

then go back up top, if you have a your coolant over flow tank by the strut and belts remove it, you can take the alt off too, lets you see better when putting it back on, not much but it helps.

now theres a hole in the pulley, with a 3 inch extension and a socket, go through the hole at the 12 and 6 o clock position are the bolts, remove them and the pumps off, rocking the engine forward helps it clear its way out.

then remove the pulley, and put it on the new pump, then install the new pump, add new fluid, run the car for a minute, turn the wheels back and fourth a few times, then shut it off, and check the fluid level, fill if needed.

one of them long thin transmission funnels works good for filling the pump too, just go slow and watch the tank level, very easy to over fill it.

^^^^ And if you do all that, you might as well pull the tensioner and replace the coolant elbows.

some parts have 30 days, but up to 90 days. depends on who you got it from and if it was new or rebuilt.
