So I was doing some research and I came to the conclusion that the L32 engine already use's a 180* thermostat....this is what advance auto parts pulled up for the stock replacement....Is this true??? if so, guess theres no need to replace...

wait i'm sorry OE means orginal equipment right? meaning the factory standard? if this is so, it comes with 195*

then shouldnt a 160* be even better????

160 will make your heat run cooler when you want it and the car might throw a code because of how cold it is. i would stick with a 180.

if you really want to get some crazy cooling going on..take the thermostat completely out.

nah no thnx lol...running too cold of an engine sounds bad since the oil can't get hot enough to break down and end up having sludge in your engine over time....

Im running a 180* stat in my gtp, loss a lil mpg, but unless you install a fan switch or get a pcm that has the 180* turn on, then the only time it will help you is when your going down the interstate. Other wise it will go above the 195* mark some but shouldnt be much over that.

a 160* thermo is way too cold, most engines operate most efficiently at 180-185*. runnign a 180* protects your engine, your cooling system, and your gaskets.

tried it... car got pissed at me....started spitting codes in my face... put the 180* back in... soon after she was calm

A Puerta Rican guy I know said he would run no thermostat in his cars when in Puerta Rico because it was so hot.... however in Maryland there is no point, and our cars apparently are too smart for it

yea, it did, however it took forever to heat up, I can't see this being a worthy mod unless you live in extremely hot weather conditions like Arizona or something

There is such a thing as too much flow. Unless the car is modified for it, running with no thermostat can reduce the coolant's ability to conduct heat from the cylinder walls. Your gauge may be showing lower coolant temps, but your combustion chamber temps might be higher. This is caused by too much flow through the heads (with no tstat) creating cavitation and excessive turbulence in the water jacket. That reduces conduction from the metal to the coolant since the coolant moves through too fast.

This is actually one of the harder parts of tuning a custom liquid cooling system in other industries and hobbies. Too much flow and you'll see the temp rising on the item you're trying to cool. GM already calibrated the system with a thermostat, and I'm not going to be ripping it out thinking I know what I'm doing.
