Any information on the comparision of a Overkill and a Intense PCM?
I hear that they are both good PCM's.
I know for a fact from my own personnel experience that the INTENSE PCM is a great one to buy. However I have never personally dealt with a Overkill PCM.
Although seeing as I've seen many cases where it takes much longer than it should for people to receive their Overkill PCM I would just have to suggest to anyone going and buying one from INTENSE instead so that you know you'll be receiving it in a reasonable amount of time.
I here you, I currently have a overkill pcm in which I am having problems with and have had a hard time contacting Will at Overkill form nearly a week and have not received a replacement one either. I paid via my Business Paypal account, and i am close to placeing a dispute and/or claim.
I really dont know what else to do. I orig received the first Over kill PCM around Sept 6th and I am still dealing with issues .
Yeah, things like that I have heard from other people as well is what makes me a little leery about recommending anyone getting a Overkill PCM.
I don't really know what to tell ya though since I don't know Will or any over the 'Overkill' guys, if there is more than one that is. I'd just try getting a hold of someone else that knows him a bit better so that maybe they can get in contact with him for you. Kind of a long shot though.
I have an Intense pcm and don't really like it. With the mods I have now I shouldn't be far off in a tune, but my LTFT's are -10's on average and I'm getting knock up to 8* reading from my aeroforce. Thats with 3.4" pulley, headers and other basic mods. I already bought a powertuner and will probably throw a DHP .bin on there or start from stock for a tune. Even without the headers the tune was off and was supposed to be setup for the mods I had at that time, i was getting a lot of knock.
A local guy got an Overkill pcm a while ago and loved it. He said the tunes were dead on every time and he was running 12's in his car at that time so I was impressed.
Part of the problem is that your getting the pcm from canada, I bought some fuel rails off of a guy up in canada, he shipped out on the 6th and I didn't get them until the 22nd.
I would never run an INTENSE or ZZP PCM. I have seen many issues with both theirs. VERY scary settings they put in their programs.
DHP is proven and trusted by many, and OverKill's seems to be right up with there's.
Thats my $0.02.
~F~
I have 2 Intense pcms and after getting a powrtuner and looking inside I wasn't impressed with what I didn't see. The zzp one would be my pick second only to a real tuner.
I've had great luck and excellent communication with Overkill on the many revisions i've purchased from him. I recommend him hands down...
this is just me .02...
I wouldn't waste your money on a pcm that someone programmed for what your car "might" need. Honestly i would A) find someone local that can help you tune your car correctly B) save the money and buy a tuner.
Every car is completely different from any other, and coming from an hptuners person i love it. There is so many things that i needed to change on my car that the mail order pcm didn't. It's just a guess, there can be so many negatives they'll have on your car and there will be a lot of things that can be made even better imo. Every car needs it's own attention in certain places that other cars might not, there's no way a mail order pcm is going to take care of all of them the perfect amount, but a tuner will. They aren't hard to use, and learning how to use them is simple! just a little reading and you'll be good to go.
I know I've posted this before, but I've had an Intense, ZZP, and Overkill.
The INtense one did no harm.
The ZZP was terrible and I only let it stay in the car for about 30 mminutes.
Overkill, my fav, hands down.
Tune the car 1-2 times?! i don't think so, i constantly change stuff on my car, it's not just air fuel, it's trans setting, cooling system settings, speed limiter settings, traction control, ect. Trust me there will be more than just 2 times you tune the car. The point of having it is so you can change whatever you need to on your car to maximise the hp output in any temperature. I would never pay someone 500 to tune my car, that's just stupid, nor would i let someone send me a pcm that "might" work on my car. Fuel trims are very important to get correct and a mail order pcm isn't going to do that imo. It's worth every penny to buy your own tuner and do it yourself. It takes quite a while to dial in fuel trims with my own tuner and to think that a mail or pcm will even get it close is.... haha... riiiiiight.
When it comes to tuners and doing it yourself dont forget about:
A.) People who don't have time to learn how to tune
B.) People who don't care about learning how to tone
I have a ZZP PCM, and no complaints. In fact i love it. I bought it with their VS cam. I love the way the Tranny shifts, going from 3rd to 1st at 35mph. It really made a huge difference.
ALTHOUGH Ive yet to try anything else which leads me to this question. Everyone talks about performance between all of these guys, intence, zzp, overkill. I want to know about features. OVERALL what do you guys think about the overkill pcm? Ive done a lot of work to this car and i want something to make it all click, when Im WOT, and when Im just cruising. As i read through overkills list of features it seems to dwarf competitors (aside from being a locked tune).
Also after reading your post Mikegotone, i thought about just getting a tuner. I built the motor myself, and it would sure be nice to tune it myself too. Have you seen the overkill Pcm list of features? do you think it would be diffecult for me to go that deep into a Pcm as a first timer? Ill take it to a pro for A/F, i just want more functionality out of it.
Whats a good tuner to buy for a Series III 3.8 supercharger. I have an 07 Grand Prix GT. I've been wanting to get a tuner and custom tune my car myself but can't find one to support the PCM in my vehicle.
I was getting ready to order a PCM from will... Now i read all your guys reviews i think i may get a friend to tune it, anyone in the northern KY are know how.... Close to Cincinatti.....![]()
