I just bought a GTP the other day and the engine (l67) blew up on me as I was driving home, got ripped off I know, but I was wondering if I go buy a naturally aspirated L36 can i just swap the supercharger on it? I'm not sure if there are any major differences between the two engines besides the top end. Thanks.

    they don't make NA L32s.

No major differences aside from things related to the vehicle.

    How did it blow up?

    Was it bought modded?

Your best option is to buy a another supercharged engine (low comp), its too much of a hassle to buy all the stuff needed to run the high comp block.

Isn't there a lemon law against that, go get your money back.

Otherwise yes you can do a topswap to the l36. There's some wiring involved and the Pcm should be programmed properly. There's a few how to's on it

L32 is the supercharged engine in the 04+
L26 is the N/A engine in the 04+ cars. yes you can topswap it, but you can also just buy another L32 for less work.

There's no lemon law in indiana for a car bought from a private party. And sorry I got my numbers mixed up on the engines. the engine that blew was a series II supercharged. It's locked up now. Yea it was modded had a 3.4 pulley headers cai and supposedly then engine was rebuilt with forged pistons and rods ect. But if I can find a na 3800 series II me and a buddy are going to tear it completely down to the block and build it back up with stronger parts then stock, swap the s/c onto it and then taken the blown motor out and put the built one in.

I strongly urge you to never ever touch the bottom end.

People who take these motors apart almost never rebuild them correctly and they blow up.

And the few that do rebuild them correctly have a ton of money in machine work and man hours into them, then end up dumping the car soon after lololol.

Just a little reason why you dont need to tear it apart. The company ZZP has taken a bone stock block, added a huge turbo, made well over 650 whp and never had a problem. Stock blocks will handle the power these motors can put out.

I would still find yourself a L67 motor and just drop it in.

So the bottom end of a stock n/a 3800 series II could handle about how many lbs of boost? With a 3.4 pulley it should be around 12-13 lbs right?

Sweet. I just need to find an engine and compare prices. Is a s/c one is close to the price of a n/a one then ill just buy the s/c one.

My L67 chipped a few pistons and ran like that for over a year, pretty stout. I went with an L26 an never looked back. I'd also go back to a stock pulley if you can't tell if you're knocking or not.

Yea well you know why that engine locked up? cuz the guy rebuilt the bottom end. Same thing will happen if you do it. just go find another L36 or even L67 and put a gen V on it.
