So Ill be driving down the road and my car will randomly shut off, the steering locks up and everything but the radio and stuff still have power. the RPM doesnt drop right away until a few seconds after. I pull over and take the key out, then sometimes it will start right away and sometimes i have to wait a minute or two. Today it died and when I started it up it was running really rough and also really lean according to my wideband, like it was maxing it out lean. 22+. if i hit the throttle it would be about right but at idle is was all messed up, no check engine lights except one for the MAF that says its immature. The MAF was reading around 2-3k hz at idle when it was screwy. I have replaced the crank sensor. Any ideas what it is? I kinda feel like its a fuel issue since its lean but I dont know. At WOT it runs fine still. my battery cable's + terminal bolt may be stripped, but it seems to be in solid.

Sounds like the fuel pump... Get a fuel line pressure gauge and make sure

Would it still act fine for a long time if it was that? like ill be on the highway and have a good A/F ratio then the car will just go to 22+ and shut off. and same thing when i start it again. Then after a minute or two itll be normal. If it is the fuel pump ill probably upgrade it.

Could be fuel pump, clogged filter, regulator or something wrong with fuel pump resistor circuit.
Change the filter and put a gauge on it. This way you can monitor pressure the next time it happens.

I changed the filter and did a ZZP FP rewire, died again. This time i drove it right after i started it, and it kinda make a slurping sound. Like someone is sucking out the last bit of their drink with a straw. Maybe its my kinked fuel lines, that would explain why I have normal A/F ratio when i rev it up. (More pressure) I dont really want to dump $100 on my stainless line setup quite yet but i may not have a choice.

So the car has the GT fuel system and it's just top swapped. Right? No Fuel pump resistor?

Do you have any DTC's. It could be a problem with the evap system.

Remove your gas cap and drive it.

Im curious how it could be an evap problem. I have all the codes deleted for that. I had it unplugged for a while and It dies, so i plugged it back in and it still died. The problem with driving around with the gas cap off is that it only occasionally dies, not every time i drive. what if i just open it before I drive somewhere?

It is an 01 GT, gt fuel system (with L67 injectors and fuel rail of course)

If you suspect fuel pressure issue then monitor rail pressure.

If thing change with the gas cap off but it still dies then I agree with matt5112. Monitor fuel pressure under idle conditions. If the system pressure maintains >45 psi then move on. The problem is probably the MAF, IAC or a vacuum leak.

So i rented a fuel pressure tester, and I have around 40 psi at idle (when its running good) Im gonna try to make it die again and Ill test it then. I have one kinked line that connects to the left side of the fuel rail. If i kink it more the fuel pressure goes up, so im thinking its the return line. Maybe ill try switching out the fuel pressure regulator with the old one off my L36 rail. I also have a spare IAC valve.

40 is good for idle because 20 inHg is ~10 psi.

FPR pulls 1 PSI of fuel pressure for every PSI of vacuum and adds one for every PSI of boost.
