Modified '97 TB?

I recall seeing where someone took a TB from a '97 L67 and removed the center part the MAF sits in and put in a newer style MAF.

My question is: Can I do that but still use my old MAF? I know the air will not flow down the little flute before it comes out, but will that affect the sensor's accuracy?

not sure that they bolt up correctly with a different year maf.

The bolt holes are the same, but the MAF hole itself is just a bit larger and can be drilled or dremeled out.

I only have one TB right now and don't want to screw up the only one I've got just trying it. I suppose I can secure a second one and try that... So... Who has a '97-'98 Tb they're itching to get rid of??

You can go so far as to use a whole setup for the 98+ throttle body, but because of the added bore and different MAF sensor you will need to adjust the MAF tables. The air velocity will be much different, and there will be more air going in than the sensor will pick up. I do these as well, while still using the old MAF sensor, but it's just down right easier and more cost effective to use a newer TB and reprogram the PCM.

I read a writeup someone did on another forum (can't remember which one, now) that a modified '97-'98 TB would outflow a stock 99+ TB and cost me less. I have a N* waiting to go on as soon as I decide what I want to do about an adapter plate, so I'm just wanting to do something cheap to mess with. I was under the assumption that the '97-'98 and '99+ TB's were the same bore.

My TB is a 98(very similar if not the same as a 97) With a 2002 Maf (my car is an 2002)

oops, got the years adjusted. That's exactly what I'm wanting to do to mine, but continue to use my '97 MAF it that's possible (just to keep from having to spend $100 or more on a new MAF).

^^That would be easier to do physically(the 99+ maf is a lot bigger all around)... But that puts a lot of open space around the 97 MAF, and it is designed to have air directed at it, not to measure out in the open, I see a 97- TB with the bridge removed and a 97 Maf as something very hard to tune

That's why I suggest getting a later model one. It's easier to cut and smooth, and then you put the MAF sensor in it and boom, you're done. Only thing left is to load the stock tuning and some minor tweaks for the 99+ and you're ready to roll again.
