I drive less than the number of miles required to change the oil in a year. Is it important to change my oil on a time basis as well as a mileage basis?

yes, oil breaks down from just sitting in a unused engine, my mother hardly drives her car and she gets a oil change every 6 months or so, even tho she not close to 3,000 miles.

crazy as this is i never told her to do it like this, somehow she knew.

and this is a woman who if pulled into a lot from one road and left out another exit she would be lost lol

Been told 400 different things as far as that topic goes. Every thing from only when the change oil light reminds you, to every 3000 miles. I do it every 7000 miles or so and no ill effects from it. Of course adding that 1 quart for the mystery use at about 4000 miles. Have almost 150,000 on the clock and still running fast! Once a year should work in the case of low miles driven.
