Hi guys, so I moved and left my car back in Delaware to have a new engine put in it. The engine is finally in the car....but now it's not getting fire. It is getting fuel, it is turning over. I know when it comes to fire it could be many different things. I had someone tell me that any time a new motor is put in, the ecm needs to be reprogrammed. I find that kind of odd but figured I would come ask you guys since you are awesome with the GPs. Can anyone verify if this is true about having to have the car reprogrammed? Thanks in advance

    Check over grounds.

Check the ICM ground. Make sure the plug in is secure. Check over the IGN fuses in the fuse box.

Wow, don't let that guy touch your car. Good decision coming here.

So it starts, runs and then shuts off? Or it cranks but won't start?

Could need a CASE learn but usually they don't. Are the plug wires in the right order on the coil pack? Is the starter cable on the starter and not the trans?

Or they pinched the harness for the crank sensor.

The magnet may have been left off the cam sprocket. No magnet = no signal.

You can wave a compass in that area. If the needle jumps wildly then the magnet is there. Otherewise you have to take the entire front cover off to inspect. They might be able to see it through the hole for the sensor?

You can also wave a magnet across the pickup and see if the signal deflects on the scanner.

Tell them to trace the pickup wire back to the PCM and make sure there's no short or disconnect. There is a pigtail on the front of the motor also; it may be bad.

icm wiring harness plugs into the cam position sensor. look for a frayed or cut wire in that harness.

Have you swapped the ICM yet. The signal goes through the ICM before it gets to the PCM.

Please forgive me if this has already been done and discussed.
