Re: Car is almost back together but need a lil help please
Are you talking about the throttle cable and cruise control cables? I am asking in case there is a different cable I am not thinking of. I did take that bar off a few times (both sides) but right now or at least as of yesterday the cable was above the bar. I thought maybe it was pulled too tight some how and was causing the idle to stay at 3000 so I pulled the bar and checked the two cables and they seemed fine. I have not heard back from the shop so I am not getting a good feeling about it at this point but I am trying to not worry too much until I actually get bad news. Anything else jumping out at anybody as possibilities? Thanks again.

I still say vac leak... Post us some pics of the routing you have and I'm sure we can spot an error if the pics are good enough. You replace injector o-rings too? They can cause a vac leak as well.

Re: Car is almost back together but need a lil help please
It was not running long enough here that I even though to put a scanner on it, I was freaked out by how fast the idle was and even though I know better when rational I was worried the car would blow up or something so I did not leave it run very long at all at any one time. I will ask the shop first thing this morning that question though.
Car is not here now to get pics but I did not chage the injector o-rings. There were a few missing pintle caps and one that broke when I got the fuel rail off (I think pintle cap is what they are called, the little clip things on the end of the injector by the o-ring) but I did not think that those were that big of a deal as long as the o-rings were there and in good shape especially on a car with no mods but maybe that is something to look at. I am hoping that cam sensor does the trick and maybe they just did not get the part in time yesterday and that is why they did not call me with the good news.
A question on the vacuum stuff which I have not actually asked. Some of the lines broke when I took the car apart and I replaced everything but there were two lines that were really really skinny that had kinda U looking end connectors on them originally, when I replaced those I just used regular vac line that was larger but still fit onto the ports they should have. Would the size of the vacuum tubing make that much of a difference like by allowing more flow or something? I know I did not ask that question too well but I hope it makes sense. Thanks!

Re: Car is almost back together but need a lil help please
Those O-rings are a bit tricky to seat some times and if they weren't recently new I bet the rubber was hard as a rock like most I have seen. Just mentioned those cause when I helped a buddy do his LIM's he crushed and cut an o-ring putting the rail back on and caused a vac leak that took us a bit to find. The high idle just screams vacuum leak to me though, exactly what my car did when I forgot to put my EGR block off plate on one time and had a huge vac leak, and the other time my TB gasket blew out, and the other time I blew a vac line off with too much boost
Re: Car is almost back together but need a lil help please
CHIT! Shop replaced cam sensor and still getting no signal to the injectors. He is going to trace the 6 wires to see if maybe some how I broke/damaged a wire but I was so freakin careful and slow that I would be surprised I did unless the age and brittleness of the wire could cause that but it still seems way out there to me. I am glad I trust this guy otherwise I would be going totally apechit right now instead of only a little apechit. Even if I missed something with the vacuum system I would hope by now that this guy would have found whatever I missed. He is a real business/repair shop with he and his brother who have both been mecahnics for over 40 years but it is still hard to give control of my car to some one even though I don't know chit lmao!
If any of you guys absolutely can't do something yourself that you thought you could do you all feel that way? I mean I would never try and rebuild a trans so I'd send that out but this was a stupid gasket job that went freakin sideways. WTF?
Re: Car is almost back together but need a lil help please
I assume he's using noid lights to verify the injectors actually aren't getting signal right? And I have no idea why a cam sensor would make it idle that high. Or how it could run at all with the injectors not firing...
Re: Car is almost back together but need a lil help please
im still betting the throttle postion sensor is broke or somethin....

That's too easy to check with a simple handheld scanner. Car off, no touch = 0, fully depressed = 100 or fai. DO NOT tamper with idle adjustment set screw, as it's only purpose is to set the tps to 0
Re: Car is almost back together but need a lil help please
Well it's the weekend and I did not hear back from the shop before they closed yesterday so I could get all worked up and worry all weekend or just relax and plan how I am going to part the car out ;) to make myself feel better., JK. This is not a daily so at least I am not without wheels but it still irritates me. I am not sure how he is checking the injector issue but I have several questions on a piece of paper when I do talk to the shop next that you guys have brought to my attention.
The way I understood things, it was not the cam sensor causing the idle directly but more of something that the cam sensor should have been doing that it was not that was causing the injectors not to get signal - or so he thought anyway.
I don't have any clue but still interested in what you all might thing it could be. Thanks!

Re: Car is almost back together but need a lil help please
We went out to the beach today to hang out and watch for dolphins as they are really close to the shore right now. The shop my car is at is close to the beack so I swung in there otw to just check on it and caught one of the brothers there. He told me what they had done and showed me the noid lights you were talking about. He put them on all of the injectors and when you first turn the key they blink once but then nothing while it cranks. The TB also only sucks on the first crank then nothing at all. The guy thinks my PCM may have spiked and fried some how but he is not 100% yet but said it could be the coil module instead??? He will know better Monday.
He also suggested using the stock airbox and filter so the PCM can mount like it did originally. This worries me as I know many people on here have done the home depot style intake and it did not F*** up a car like this. I don't really care since I am not planning on modding the engine at this point but I did one purely for looks. It just kinda worried me that he would suggest that, any opinions on that?
We had a great day at the beach, saw dolpins galore so the kiddos were happy. Also there were several women's volleyball games going on so I was distracted from the car chit for a few hours too
Re: Car is almost back together but need a lil help please
Your intake will be fine hundreds of people have the same setup and the pcm just lays there. You car doesn't start at all now?
Re: Car is almost back together but need a lil help please
NOPE! I guess this developed right before they changed the cam sensor.
Re: Car is almost back together but need a lil help please
Did they do a compression check?
Re: Car is almost back together but need a lil help please
Yes. I don't recall the actual pressure numbers but they were all within the acceptable range
Re: Car is almost back together but need a lil help please
they fuked somethin up.. i dont see how the pcm went haywire... and i hAD my pcm under the the airfilter for a year and some change and never had any issues
dont see how coils is fouled up... hell in my eyes they owe you...
Re: Car is almost back together but need a lil help please
I started to think the same thing when I was pissed but I really trust these guys and would hate to think that is the case. I think if it turns out that it is something they messed up that they would admit it and make things right. I am not going to put my last name on here but if it was not what it is, it would be MURPHY so strange chit always seems to find me no matter how hard I try to hide from it!
They said they would have to possibly spend a couple more hours tracing wires and checking chit but they would most likely know more early Monday so I will post here then with an update and hopefully it will be good news this time.
Thanks again to all who have offered advice or suggestions that kept me thinking and gave me questions to ask the shop.
Re: Car is almost back together but need a lil help please
Well I need a PCM and I am grabbing one from a member here so once that is installed I should be ready for Daytona or at least the school zone down the street hopefully. If that does not work, you can all start putting together your factory parts wish lists!!! Hopefully that is just me kidding but ya never know
Re: Car is almost back together but need a lil help please
LMAO right now!!! I called the local Chevy dealer to check about a case learn for the new/used pcm once it gets here just to see what they said and they said " we don't want to get involved with that sorta stuff cuz the cars too old" WTF!
Re: Car is almost back together but need a lil help please
Don't worry about the case learn. If the pcm works..it works.
On teh fuel injectors.. they do prime with key on, then turn off during cranking and come back to life when the engine fires up.
