Well, it doesn't do it all the time. Mostly on hills. It's fine on the highway in cruise control. It's mostly when I'm accellerating hard, or going uphill. There's no noise from the tranny. I know what the whine sounds like.

I checked the wheel bearings and there's no shake or play. No ABS light either. Tranny fluid is clear red. I know I have to change the fuel pump (tomorrow) so maybe when it's accellerating it's not getting enough fuel. I hope that is the issue.

Also, can anyone tell me what the typical tranny problems are with these cars? What mileage do they start to go bad? Can anything be done to prolong the life of the tranny? (Yes I know about changing the fluid to Dexron VI). I've had a 2001 Aurora(Same tranny as a GP GT) and Cutlass Supreme with bad trannys. I thought the GTP tranny was more beefed up and lasted longer but from what I've been reading oin the forum I'm now worried. My tranny doesn't seem to have an issue now.
