just pump the old fluid out, and take it off, all you need to do is, remove the belts, alternator, flop it to the side, unbolt the snout and slide it off. get new fluid, and some of that sealant for the s/c,(i forget the name of it) i used high heat rtv, its been holding for over a year now. very thin smear on both sides of the case and snout, is more than enough.

im sure it would be easier to work on off the car.

crap, well, I wish I'd have known that before I bought the seal, or I would have gotten the coupler, too, if I'm going to have it off, anyhow. I guess it's my fault for not asking ahead of time.

Secondarily, why are there no posts on replacing the seal? Maybe I just can't find them, except for two. One is this:

The other is just someone trying to sell a polished snout with new seals. What gives??

that link sounds promising, idk if the puller can fit on the end of the snout and not have anything in the way. others should know this one. ive never been down that road yet.

    "sounds simple, right? LOL"

This was the part that bothered me, I guess. Might be funny to someone that has done 100 of them and knows all the tricks of the trade - inside joke maybe? I'm not hip and it's really unknown territory for me.

Found one post, too, that said to run two sheet metal screws into each side of the seal and to be careful not to get into the bearing behind it. yeah, that helps, too... <eyes rolling>

The guy trying to sell polished snouts said several things about the leak on the back side of the pulley, but nothing about a leak on the outside, toward the coolant tank. I assume it's still the seal, but that made me wonder, too. I've got the seal now, so it's likely that it's getting a new one, no matter what. It's just a matter of how deep the project goes.
