    Hi. My name is john.
I just bought a 2005 Pontiac Grand Prix base. It has lots of add ons including an engine swap. It wont pass inspection because of the check engine light. Everything is triggering it.
The previous owner did all the work or at least paid for it. My mechanic needs me to find out what kit was used to convert the engine. I cant find that info. What can i do to save myself thousands in labor to have him go through the car and possibly try to fix it blind? Please help me, lol. I appreciate you reading this. Hope you can help. Thanks
Just wanted to add that it is a V6 Supercharged. Not sure the origin or year of the engine. My mechanic wants kit info to get a manual to follow the conversion kit process and try to find where the conversion went wrong. The electrical is where the problem is. Car runs and drives fine.

First we need to know what was done. Take pictures I highly doubt they did an engine swap unless it was l26 to l32

and what all codes do you have everything would consist of about 1400 codes.

Post a pic of the engine bay. People will be able to get a better idea of what is done to it. Also what are the codes that are coming up. What kind of things is the car doing/not doing.

    Edit: nick ninja'd me lol

    John,

I'm in Enfield CT. If you can't pass emissions because of codes. Yet the car runs good. We can easily take care of that. Very easily.

Meanwhile.. I'm as confused as everyone else as to what was converted.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

As far as i understand the car came with a non supercharged v6 and was swaped for a supercharged engine from another pontiac. I dont know where it came from. without photos no one will be able to tell me lol. I will get some photos this weekend and post them. Hopefully that will help. Its NH inspection and they are tight, lol

One simple electrical issue can cause multiple codes.... just so you know. Also... post the codes.

John...I have a cam swap to do this weekend, so I'm not mobile. If you want to come to me, we can likely fix up your issues in under an hour.

    John...

The only puzzle is .. what hasn't been completed in the swap.

Where did you pick up the car? Since it's been swapped, the person was probably a member on this forum or another.

I got it from a local used car dealer. It was originally a "rent a car" out of Mass. Then the second owner bought it. I don't know anything about this person except he is from Derry, NH. According to the carfax. He had the work done. Im not sure how the dealer ended up with it. I will try to find out more later. Hope to learn this persons name and maybe if i'm lucky i can talk to him. He added an aluminum subframe. Upgraded to large brakes. Custom exhaust. Nice rims and tires and a few other cosmetics. He definitely put some money into it. I hope that with that kind of money that he didn't do a hack job with the engine wiring and ecu or cpu
