Ok so iv got a 98 GTP and i vbeen a little curious about something. Iv had the car a year now and iv seen people on here get like 280 to the tank (on average from what iv seen) now...my car gets to around 180 or 190 and the fuel light comes on. I know these cars have 18 gallon tanks. So the kicker is when i fill up when the light comes on or close to it it says 10-12 gallons at the pump and the info display we have says very close to what the pump says (if not spot on). So my big question is should i trust the pump numbers and the info display over what the fuel gauge needle says? Also if that's the case would that mean my level sensor needs replacing? Main reason i ask this is because before i go testing things i want other opinions on the matter before i run it longer before filling up >.< Any and all advice answers are greatly appreciated!

from what i understand, the low fuel light is supposed to come on when you have 100 miles left in the tank, but we all know thats not always the case.

but in your case it may be spot on. so if you fill up and only put 10-12 gallons in that means you had up to 8 gallons left in your tank, and if you get 20 mpg, you have 100 to 120 miles left to travel before your tank would be empty. thus adding over 100 miles to your tank.

ok see that's what i was thinking but the last two cars i had light came on and you better get gas soon lol. Guess its just years of "fuel light comes on"....."oh crap" lol But now that you say it comes on when i have 100 miles left i may just push this next fill up. My other question is, is does anyone else experience this?

the low fuel light is different for each car, if you put in a new fuel pump and sender im sure it would not be the same.

when my light comes on i have 3 gallons left.

In town only I usually get 150 miles at 1/4 which is when I fill up to not kill my fuel pump.

Best you can do is put the DIC on fuel used, then you know what fuel you have left. That way you can quickly know your range, city or hwy. Reset the DIC every fill up.

When my fuel light goes on, I don't have much left at all. I've learned the hard way that I need to get to the station ASAP..But I've got a different sending unit in there so maybe thats why. Or the fact that I just get crap mileage

yeah see i usualy fill up at a quarter or when the light comes on, which is around the 180-200 range. And i do reset everything on the DIC when i fill up like you said probably just have to have it display fuel used and stretch the gas tank a little more cuz if i do almost all city driving and i have to fill up every 4 days which id like to only have to fill up once a week so hopefully this will work lol

Spartanzz, your doin it right. City driving will always use more fuel and your consumption is right accurate, other than that it's either drive less, or drive like

Filling up just before the orange with all city driving i end up right at 270-290. If it was a tuning tank the mileage goes down considerably (180-200) due to lots of WOT.

I usually get around 300 mile to a tank. My DIC flashes low when my range gets to like 50 miles. THEN the low fuel light comes on.

i do a lot of city driving for short trips mostly, and my dic say 10 to 12 most of the time, my regal just drinks gas around town, when im on the high way im up to 28+ if im real light on the gas and don't hit any hills. i have no idea what i get out of a full tank as its only been filled 2 times and i didn't hit the trip.

yeah see my dic says im getting 16 and i even did the math at the pump and i am getting 16 and i do tend to push the car a bit just not whole lot. So technically i should be going about 280 miles to the tank or around therewhich would mean my light comes on when i have about 80 miles left (u think, assuming my math is right) plus im having cat conv issues cuz im having trouble getting the DP off to free up the cat conv...
