Thread: Synthetic Blend Motor Oil?

We have a 2002 GTP with 109,000 miles. We bought the car a few months ago and I'm guessing the oil is conventional. The engine runs great but I'm thinking about running a synthetic blend motor oil. I've heard full synthetic is awesome motor protection, helps the motor run cooler, offers better protection at cold start up etc. However I have also heard that it should start to be used at a certain mileage and can lead to oil leaks. Common sense tells me a blend may be the way to go to get the best of both worlds. We plan on keeping the car for a while and want to keep the engine well maintained and running well. The only mod we have put on the car now is Intense K&N cold air intake (fender well) Planning on headers, smaller pulley and PCM next year. Thoughts and your experience would be greatly appreciated.

In my honest opinion oil is oil and prety much all works the same. My car has 118k on it and I have run conventional oil for every oil change and it runs perfectly fine. I do 10w30 in the summer and 5w30 in the winter. Really if you buy the blend stuff or full syn your just paying for the name on the jug and getting screwed.

not completely true but he's got a point too. If you keep after you oil changes and do them at like 2500-3000 miles everytime then run conventional If you wana be able to run 15000miles an oil change then you need a good oil and a really good filter Like k&n or wix

Conventional does start to build up sludge sooner than synthetic but It's not like it doesn't do it's job

just sea foam it and run a decent oil doesn't have to be synthetic keep after oil changes
