Ok so I had to put gas in the car everytime I started it up, and to make matters worst it shuts off on me. I have to crank it up 2 or 3 times before it will ide properly. went to the mechanic. He said the engine was not duplicating the ide so he fix that, since then it hasn't shut off and it was burning gas at a normal rate. But now its back to burning the gas at a rapid rate and the engine knocks heavier than normal. I plan to replace wires and plugs over the next few days see if that helps...any other ideas or imput is appreciated..thanks..

    Video?

    It knocks?

Failing engines get pretty bad MPG's...description is kinda vague though.

Any DTC's ,something should show out of range if it's dumping fuel in the cylinders, unless you just have one injector failing , and the ecm doesn't see any change in coil resistance, but the injector is hanging up inside, and fuel is just blasting threw it. It would be nice if you get a specific cylinder miss code, to point you in the right direction. If you think it's all the cylinders running rich, check the fuel rail pressure regulator vacuum line, maybe it's cracked or leaking, that would cause higher fuel pressure at all engine loads.

sorry guys, here is an example. i live .6 miles from walmart and if i left my house on a half of tank of gas to go walmart by the time i arrived at walmart i would have burn a whole quarter tank of gas...i have clean the throttle body and the problem went away. now new problem arise, now when i drive the car and stop (put car in park) the gas gage would just go down like the car is dumping the fuel somewhere but im not gettin a error code.. and there is no signs of any leak from the engine..

If you were actually burning that much fuel your exhaust would be pure black and you'd look like a diesel truck going down the road.

    Wrong.

    Over fueling is BLACK smoke.

Coolant being burned is WHITE smoke.

    Oil buring is BLUE smoke.

ever see a high powered diesel before, all that black smoke is raw fuel that is un-burned.

No, its not. Raw fuel will burn black with or without a cat.

Where do you come up with this stuff? Do you make it up as you go along and think no one will notice how wrong you are?

did you even read what I said?

It dont ****ing matter if it has a cat or not, what I said is truth.

you could have a cat converter and still be throwing black smoke out the tailpipe, the cat wont like it much and will soon clog.

ive had my share of carb'd cars that burned black, but they all had straight pipes.
ive never seen a modern EFI car with a cat burn black. ive seen TONS burn white.

Never seen a car with black soot on the rear bumper? Look at a grand am once lmao. White smoke would be lean or coolant burning. Anyways, if you can watch the gauge go down, id assume your leaking at one of the injector O Rings or the quick connects on the rail

The only thing that will burn white is coolant.

I had a TSI running much richer than that once. Smoke was black as black could get.
