So I installed a ported SC and the SSIC core today. But I probably just did the most stupid thing I've done this year...

I was putting back the fuel rail with the injector spacers, but to do this you have to take out the factory bolts that hold down the rail to the LIM. While I was doing this, the bolt that's closest to cylinder 6 fell into the injector hole and into the cylinder.....

I turned it on for a couple of seconds just to make sure it went all the way in, of course there it was, the rattle.

Right now I plan to try and pull it out using one of those magnet reach things through the spark plug hole, I think it's possible since those studs have no head. Although it may take a lot of patience.

Do you guys think it's worth a try? What else could I try to pull it out? I'm trying to find out what options I have before I go and pull the head out.

You may get lucky. I doubt it though. Id imagine it beat up the piston and valves.

yeah i think it's pretty much busted, the magnet reacher thing didn't seem to be grabbing anything inside the cylinder, probably the stud is stuck somewhere inside. Gonna tow it later and let the mechanic fix it and finish doing the IC install.

Ok so the head is off and this is what we found:

The question now is I should replace this piston or not. Nothing else has any marks in this cylinder.

You guys think it will work fine if I leave it like this?

That's a shame...I would have yanked the head before even ATTEMPTING to turn it over...

Did you find the missing stud? Is the piston cracked at all? I'd clean it off real good and see. If not then I'd put it back together. How's the valves look for that cylinder?

You got lucky. When I "lost" a bolt during a LIM job it shattered my piston on #1 to the point where all that was left was the rod and wrist pin beating the cylinder wall up. Yea, stupid I know but sh*t happens.

In my defense I thought I'd seen the bolt jammed down low and didn't think it made it where it did. Had I known I would have pulled my head before starting it at all. The 1K+ rpms it turns on startup is enough to destroy a piston in .000000002 seconds

Yeah we found the stud, it was a bit crushed, but that's about it. The piston is not cracked at all, the head and valves are intact.

Thanks for the input guys I just wanted a second opinion. I'll run it like that. Now I may want to get those heads ported now that one of them is off. But i'll just create a new thread about it hehe.

I'd swap the piston out from the bottom.

Drop the cradle...turn it over by hand...remove oil pan...etc...etccc....etccccccccc

If the piston looks like that the head has to have some impression too it was certinaly compressed to leave the thread marks in the piston. No way in hell I'd leave that!!!

You can see something on the head, but just barely, not impressed at all. It looks more like a stain. the form of the head remains completely unchanged as it's made from a harder material.

^this That piston looks like it will cause pre detonation. I wouldn't think of continuing to run that.
