Honestly you need to do a good bit of supporting mods being that you have an l32 with a gen v.

    The list:

Some sort of intake (prefably a 9" cone filter)
    180 t stat
    Auto lite 104 spark plugs
Headers (speed daddy, or ssautochrome if your lookin to save some dough)
    No cat
    Resonator delete (optional)
    Then most important SCAN

after that then worry about the pulley, also I'd suggest a tune afterwards
E85, Gen V, Xp, Supporting mods, crap tune!

9" cone Intake slapped on the TB.
    Autolite 104's gapped accordingly
    Headers.

You do not need a colder thermostat.
Deleteing the cat and resonator wont make any difference.
Scanning is mandatory. Get an Aeroforce.

You wont absolutely NEED a tune, but the car will run much better once you do.

Honestly a colder tstat will help and should be done in conjunction with the 104s as it will help keep the motor a little cooler which helps the continuous kr battle. That and a tstat is only a few bucks from Autozone. And running no cat isn't mandatory but as well it helps to not run one. Trust me I speak from experience. What I posted will help him get the most out of his 3.5 without going cam intercooler or rockers

    sure. whatever you say.

running your motor cooler does NOT help with knock. its a bandaid for not being able to tune your car.

One of the only times I don't agree with you mang.

I run a 180* in my daily and a 160* in the blue car.

Also...to the OP in hur...you have a '04+ car...which means you gots the GenV blower. Stay on a 3.6". Get headers. Get a tune. AL104 Spark Plugs, 180* T-Stat...etc. Smaller pulley doesn't always equal faster.

Lmso ok your right I'm wrong, I have no idea what I'm talking about, happy now?

But your still wrong about the facts, people run cooler t stats for a reason, not because its a bandaid for not knowing how to tune.

    hm, weird.

running the motor colder is old school. they did it before they had a way to tune. colder thermostats go right along with MAF scaling devices, 110 octane, and excessively cold plugs just to run small pulleys and make fast times without having to tune for it. if you tune a car well, you dont need it to run colder.

You can't slap a cone filter on the TB, we have an external MAF

    Okay my mods:
    3.5" with Velocity stack
    180* T-Stat
    1.9 Harland Sharp Rockers
Headers w/cat and exhaust on back
Autolite 605s (104s are too cold for us, unless you are below 3.4)
    3.6 + timing

I did run a 3.4 pulley on that with a 1* of knock every once in a while

How are 104s to cold? My bro has 103s in his l32 regal gs and it runs awesome and pulls like a raped ape, and when he went with drilled tstat and switched to 103s over 104s he was able to kill some kr he was getting

Personally preference, just noticed I pulled harder with 605s cause my tune is set up that way, but going to cold on plugs can induce knock as well, also notice better fuel with 605s over 104s. Every motor is different.

So I say stick to 605s until you are on a 3.4 and then go for 104s.

It needs to be noted that the guys dropping mod ideas for this guy; he has an L32, this is not your L67. Our motors are a little more tricky, but it can be done, I'm sitting at a good spot I think personally

My research on the topic of thermostats has yielded the following results:

    Benefits of 180 degree thermostat:
    • Possibility of longer engine life if you beat the snot out of it at the track every weekend (engine life remains minimal).
    • Possibility that chunky coolant (because you suck at preventative maintenance) won't cause as much clog and over heat the engine as much.
    • Possibility to slow disintegration of Series II nylon lower intake manifold gasket if it has not yet occurred.

    Benefits of 195 degree thermostat:

    • Better mileage.
    • Significantly better heater output in the winter.
    • Oil temperatures rise high enough to boil out excess fuel and moisture in the winter.
    • 30% longer engine life for those using cars for lots of winter short trips
    • Longer intervals between oil changes because the oil stays healthier.

would also like to note that even if you change a Tstat to a lower number it wont make a difference unless you change the fans for it in the tune...

and whatever you do do NOT get the "drilled" stats...

but back to this guy, i honestly dont thing you can pull off a 3.5 without at least rockers, cam, or an IC... if you had a tuner maybe but it really just depends...

if you dont have a scan gauge dont risk it...

No need to guess, every car is different, just do the listed supporting mods, scan and go from there

Also I was unaware you could purchase drilled tstats, I've run drilled 180 tstats on both my l67 cars with no problems,
