It does indeed make sense. I didn't know that higher timing in resulted in more power though. So the more timing you can get out of it knock free the more power it should make, in theory? Correct or? I'm learning here. I know absolutely nothing about tuning lol.

It's all a nice delicate balance... just like most everything in life. Too much of any one thing is not good in most cases.

    Engines make power from reactions.

    Reactions require reactants.

You want to increase the mass flow rate of air and fuel (reactants) in the engine.

Pretty much every modification tries to do that.

For example, he put in a cam and his boost went down, which is good. Now he can safely bring the boost back up (smaller pulley) thus raising mass flow rate through said engine.

thats fine im not trying to bash you or anything just trying to help but yes (as long as its within a safe level of course) the more timing you can get knock free the more power... and when you are running the max timing, then you are ready for a pulley drop...

Head gaskets become a concern past that IIRC.

You just want to be careful with timing, the higher you go the higher the cyl temps/pressure. In one season and on flat terrain you could have no knock, on another season and hilly terrain you may get lots of knock. If I didn't have a tuner I wouldn't run more than 18* year round and just change pulley sizes accordingly. Vice versa if you own a tuner, or you can play a little more.
