Hey guys. I'm going to be selling my rockers and going cammed, my car is a daily driver and I don't beat on it to bad lol. I just want some more power and would like to be able to beat my bro in laws bolt on l32 vs cammed regal gs, which has led me to the xp cam. I have been doing some research on parts and here is what I want to do:

    Xp cam
    Zzp modded retainers
    Comp cam 105# springs
    Viton seals
    Comp cams valve locks
    Stock oem replacement timing chain
    New oem dampner
    Cam install kit
    Stock rockers, lifters, pushrods etc

Car has 80k miles on it, and will eventually be intercooled and e85

So opinions thoughts? Id like to cam it without breaking the bank

Xp cam or S1X, they are both basically the same.
Zzp modded retainers (these bind to valve locks. if you plan on removing them, then get the Intense LS retainers)
Comp cam 105# springs (Do not buy Comp cam springs, get Crowe Cam)
    Viton seals (good)
Comp cams valve locks (These aren't needed, resuse your stock ones)
Stock oem replacement timing chain (good)
    New oem dampner (good)
Cam install kit (haahahahahaha what's in it? There's no cam lube)
Stock rockers, lifters, pushrods etc (keep your stock lifters and pushrods)
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

Lol awesome, thanks. I had a feeling someone was going to comment about the comp springs. I thought the issue with them breaking had been resolved? Either way no worries so go with the crower 105s from zzp, and the basic cam install kit from zzp was what I was referring to, ill use lots of lube lol

    The ZZP install kit includes:
Valve cover gaskets that are undersized
    No grommets (required IMO)
    Timing cover gasket
    NON reusable- Rocker bolts
    Dampener
    SC gasket w/o o-rings FTL
    LIM's
Coolant elbow 0-rings (FTL, elbows are $4)
    Package of anal lube

Having done a heaping pile of installs. I would like to suggest something. Pick up from Rockauto.. these prices are before any discounts.
$40.79 FelPro VS50465R VC gaskets with grommets
$3.16 Felpro 61024 TB gasket (may as well clean while you are there)
$8.11 FelPro MS95744 SC gasket with o-rings (because they are needed)
$14.68 Fel pro SS72144 valve seals
    $16.22 Cloyes 95344 Dampener
    $4 Dorman 47065 coolant elbows
$5.36 Corteco 14496 Timing cover set
    $6.33 for 3 packages ES70599 fuel injector o-rings
$50.79 MS98014T Felpro or GM LIM gaskets
That's $100 for much more than ZZP offers, and better quality.

    You'd want
    $20 reusable rocker bolts.

IMO you save in the long run. You've added valve seals, fuel injector o-rings, TB gasket, full elbows etc. Only difference is the bolts. I didn't see bolts on Rockauto, but someone has info where to get them lower cost.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

Oooppss I forgot to mention that I already have reusable rocker bolts ( rocker install) and I have no issues with my zzp valve cover gaskets that I just changed to not to long ago, and I already have a extra set of new coolant elbows that I scored from advance auto...I guess my main concern is still regarding the valve springs, are the crower 105#s from zzp the ones i want over the comp ones...the seem to have different specs listed on zzp about the max lift?

ZZP never updates their website. Crow 105's are the ones you want.

Seems like you could shave a bit more off the list I put up then.
    -$40 VC
    -$20 Rocker bolts
    -$4 Coolant elbows

That should put you around $50 if you go through Rockauto. Only other suggestion is if you need a few other gaskets like the oil pan, the lower conversion set is cheaper than a pan gasket alone.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

Ok so y would I need a oil pan gasket?, we did a vs cam install a week ago in a real gs and the pan never came off..also we did it with the motor in the car

So here is the updated zzp list:

    Modded steel retainers
    Viton valve seals
    Crower 105# springs
    New oem chain and dampner

And the supercharger gaskets, coolant o rings, and lower intake gaskets and timing cover gaskets from rock auto?

Dragging the timing cover across the pan gasket can damage it. Yes we use rtv and call it good. I'm just saying if you foresee needing one, it's lower cost.

Glad you noticed that I missed the retainers. It's early.

Also I think I can also save on the tb gasket as I will take the blower and tb off together as one piece...and what about this discount from rock auto? I will get some injector o rings to although I have some 75# injectors waiting to go in once I go e85 ( after the cam install obviously)...

Also I know the xp cam and s1x from intense is pretty similar, but the lope on the xp sounds so much better wouldn't you agree?

Honestly, no. the XP seems to idle smoother to me than the S1X. On the TB gasket. If you haven't cleaned the TB in a while, it's a good thing to do.

Kinda like blocking off the TB coolant ports while the LIM is off. Never hurts.

Either.. VS is IMO about as strong as rockers. Either of those two are good cams.

That XP vid says 600 RPM, a stock cam could sound lopey at 600rpm idle. A lot has to do with the rpm. If you bring it up 100rpm, things smooth out.

I use 1/4" NPT brass plugs with recessed heads with a little pipe sealant on them. Same goop as you should use for LIM bolts.

If you want to go further you open up the end cap on the LIM that is under the TB and realize why we have poor flow from rear head to front. Then you open that up a bit. By doing this additional step, I kept #4 from running hotter than the other cylinders. Typically the middles run hotter and #4 being in the back, runs the hottest of all.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

Hhmm is have to disagree because I have rockers on my l67 impala and used to be able to pull my bros regal on pretty much the exact mods as me (except rockers and hp tune) with a l32 (gen v) ...after the vs cam went in he blows my doors off..where both on 3.4 pulleys and he's not even tuned....he is a little lighter with some weight reduction...

I'm just lookin to keep up or be able to pull him...and yes I know he has the gen v working to his advantage..but still lol

GenV...that's quite a big step if you were both on 3.4"s...your comparing apples to oranges guy. A 3.4" on a GenV...is like a 3.2" on your car.
