I'm thinking it's the supercharger... but it's pretty loud and only happens when I accelerate. I haven't changed to a CAI or anything like that and it's completely stock.

Just in case it isn't... What else could it be?

    Thanks in advance,

    Garrett

LOL could you describe with any MORE detail other than my supercharged engine is "whining". Superchargers whine, other problematic parts could be a squeaky belt, bearing in any pulleys going out, hubs tend to growl but still could be, brakes squeal but could be, etc...

A video would be most helpful but most likely its the supercharger. Stock 97-03 can be heard above 3k under WOT, a 04+ can really be heard above 3k at WOT

    Definitely,

It happens below 3000rpm as well. It's a 2007 Grand Prix GT SE with the 3.8L. It's got almost 50,000km and I bought it one year ago at 32,000. Should I get it inspected? It was when I bought the car and the CV joints etc were replaced.

The whine is there when I accelerate and when I let go of the gas it stays for a little bit until a certain RPM. I haven't checked it really well.

I'd fill the power steering fluid. Sounds low.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

It's not when I'm turning though... That's the thing. My uncle's Impala had low steering fluid and I could actually hear it when he was turning whining really bad. I have to get my oil changed here soon so hopefully they can check it all out.

Any more help would be great.

    Thanks again,

    Garrett

I agree with Bill, check that first... it's only like a 2 minute check and if that is the problem you're saving a lot of grief right off the bat... low hanging fruit first, man!

My 08 GP would whine like a ***** under acceleration, and Im NA. Sometimes it would get so loud you couldnt hear the rest of the engine over the whine.

I checked the ps fluid eventually and it wasnt even showing on the dipstick, very low... topped it off and the whine is still a tiny bit audible but nowhere near the volume it used to be. I think I just need to renew the fluid all together, it might be contaminated.

Turning or not, if the engine is on, the PS pump is pumping. Eliminate the obvious that way you don't take it to someone and they "claim" that it was low and they topped it off for you when they did no such thing and charge you for it.

I get engine whine as well sometimes, does the supercharger have fluid and does it need to be changed every once in awhile.

The supercharger rocks but I really don't have a clue on how it works.

I was doing 120 in the kentucky hills on the way to mammouth cave and it just pulls the car up the hills, saw other cars gasping for air.

    It was great

Is there any specific type of power steering fluid I would need to put in? What about the supercharger fluid? I'll have to check it once I get home from work.

I made a video that I will post up here in a second so you guys can listen to the noise itself. Would I just have to add more power steering fluid or would I need to flush it?

sounds like sc whine, witch is normal, try a vid parked with the hood open and rev the engine while taking the vid, dont over rev it just goose it some.
