I was looking on Ebay and i purchased "10 minutes ago" haha a intake kit for my 99 gtp. Here is a link. i didnt wanna spend a fortune on a K&N Kit so i bought this knock off that im assuming would be identical plus i have some K&N decals to slap in it anyways haha.IMPOSTER w.e this intake is a good step up but will it tweek the sound into sounding cooler and giving me more air flow? eBay Motors: 97 98 99 00 01 02 03 Grand Prix SE GT GTP V6 Air Intake (item 230262032819 end time Jun-21-08 00:44:47 PDT)

definitely not the same as the K&N, but likely the same end results at a huge discount price. I don't know where to begin, so I won't. Scan your car before and after...nuff said from me.

IAT and KR mainly. KR being the big thing.

My lawyer said I have to stay 250 feet away from spark plug, IAT, and Intake questions.

^ he's a very opinionated individual, lol. actually, i just installed pretty much the exact same setup on my 05 GP a few days ago, mine is an e-bay cheapie as well. Anyway, i can tell a slight difference in the top end but not much. To be honest its really more of a hot air intake since it will be sitting right above the crossover pipe, unless you want to wrap the aluminum intake piece with header wrap or something. Like the guys said, check your KR and IAT(intake air temperature) before and after the install to see if it even does any good, may make things worse and actually absorb more heat than the restrictive stock ducting. i dunno, that's just my .02, but you get what you pay for and at this point im kinda wishing i woulda forked out the $250+ for the K&N kit....

Get a CAI, a FWI intake, or just stick the air cone on the end of the throttle body, better than using that intake you just purchased.

#1, 3" intake tube is too small,#2 those cheapie filters tend to be a restriction ,so do I think it's a good buy IMHO NO,you will probabley end up scrapping that intake and buying a real intake at some point or making your own with a decent filter,K&N filters outflow most everyhing on the market this is why they are expenive but with proper care you'll never need to buy another.

yeah thats what i was thinking to chico. Like later on down the road scrap the filter and get a cone K&N filter. You can buy just the filter to fit the current setup in getting correct?

I had one of those for a while. Got great MPG (because of all the hot air its sucking in), but that intake in the performance area = EPIC FAIL.

That metal tube is going to absorb heat in a big way. You should try to wrap it with something. If it comes with a no-name filter, you might be better off replacing it. Get an S&B PowerStack. They work great in a HAI setup.

For power your prolly better off with the stock intake, just because with that silly pipe. you will be sucking in soo much hot air, hot air=no power. On the other hand Cold air = more power and better mpg's. As for the k&n filter..... Try blowing through the k&N filter and put your hand on the other side of it. You will feel no air flowing through it. With a K&N its an oil filter, i found it has poor air flow. The oil F***'s up the mass air flow sensor. oil gets on the mass sensor and goes bad. I would never buy a K&N filter ever again. Dry flow cone filters are for the win like AEM, only downside is if water gets on it.
oh by the way i like your bronze color GTP. So much more sleeper

    Nope.

Warmer air means less fuel is used (less dense) and that means better MPG.

Cold air means more fuel is used (more dense) and that means less MPG.

well with any cone filter you will really hear the supercharger whine. I had a cheap autozone cone filter on my last car. A supercharged 95' riviera it had the 3800 series 1 motor, which came with a smaller supercharger than yours. and the sound got very addicting
