il have a couple grand.. maybe more depending on what i want to do. but i want to know the smallest pulley i could run/ or a good performing car, without intercooling or a cam if possible. since i have a comp g i know i can only do a 3.6" pulley with headers, intake, etc.. but what would i need to drop it to a 3.5 or 3.4?
IC would work
Race car status = not
x2. If you're still running the stock lower intake gaskets, you will be pulling off the top end anyway. You want safe? Go with an intercooler, regardless of power adder.
IMO, I believe you can call race car status when your car just becomes ridiculous on the street, and you desire a beater.
Roller rockers offer less friction on the valvetrain. On a street car, I do not think you will notice the difference. Most rocker builds end up de-modding and installing a cam. You could find a set of used 1.9 modded rockers, or buy new...however you want to spend your money.
Yes, or a 3.6". Advance the WOT timing, lean out WOT AFR. You will be faster, as opposed to a 3.4" retarded timing/richer AFR.
You say you have a couple grand. Get the turbo and be satisfied with power possibly for good. If you get the mod bug, add rockers later.
As far as turbo vs pulley size comparison, in my experience my Z3 kit with 12-14psi on the street pulls on a buddies Gen5 2.9 build.
It is gonna take a lot of pulley to roll with most any turbo builds.
Just for frame of reference, my 04 GT has a HV3, 1.84 roller rockers, and exhaust mods. On street tires and no launch (stock N/A trans still), the car has a best ET of 13.01 and a best trap of 115.56 mph.
That's awesome...
but then I get to play devil's advocate on ya with the driver mod...I had an XP, Headers, 3.4", stock heads/transmission/GenIII blower/TB/pump gas with a tune and other small supporting mods...and went a best of 13.43...alas my trap speed was a little more than 10mph less (104)but I had less than a grand into it...I don't know what your setup cost you at the time of you running it...but if I had slicks and a smaller pulley with some race gas...I woulda been rollin' into the 12's easy. Reason it didn't? Car hates the track and I hate the car.
I'm just pointing out that if your looking for numbers they can be achieved pretty easy if you can drive your car right. By all means though...if your wanting to turbo it...then I wouldn't be the one to stray you from it...because turbo setups are baller as sh1t.
Even though a blower sounds awesome, nothing sounds as good as a turbo on these cars. Gives the car a false cam lope sound from what Ive heard with Dave's car.
Me personally, if I ever blew this motor, I would buy another stock one and go turbo for sure. Stock bottom end, sell off GTP heads/blower and get GT IM/heads, LS6 springs, 1.9 rockers, z3 turbo with Plogs.
I'd rather be Turbo'd than S\C'd. Turbo 3800's sound sexy! Plus they haul ass!
You can run a 3.3 with rockers headers other basic supporting mods and a good tune. But your still not gonna run with the turbo boys. You need to decide what you want before you spend any money
You have a GTP. So if your worried about money sell the GTP and get a GT then turbo it. Itll cost less for the GT and youll have money for the mods!
The gtp has paddleshifters and hud and that stuff I like tho.. Lol. I cod turbo but I wouldnt have money for a trans. If I go the pulley route id ha ve enough money to put a new trans in.. Thats why
The choice is yours and yours alone

the comp g also has 3.29's. not that thats a hard fix on anything else
this^^ depending on your build level almost a thousand bucks :/
I agree with a S/C build you can work your way well into the 13's or into the 12's with slicks. My car is a very basic build, but I don't launch the car at the track and my 13.01 was on a 2.4 60'. If I were to launch on a slick (trans holding, lol) I could imagine it could drop 6-8 tenths without much trouble.
Hate to say it, but I am a roll racer at heart and enjoy sticking with LS cars who run a solid second faster than me at the track while on the street. If your looking for shock and awe with your car then IMHO a turbo is the way to go. Opening that cutout and surprising nice cars can never get old.
Everything boils down to what your looking for. The first thing I tell people who ask me about a turbo GP as a daily is you should have another car you can count on. In my experience a turbo car can be temperamental sometimes.
yeah for me it comes down to money. id do a turbo if i could but it just wouldnt make sense if i did that and not have any money for a trans.. where if i went the other route i could basically buy a new trans for my car.
