Ive always wanted to own a 3.8sc, just to mod it.Seen one on CL foresale, folks thought that it had major issues ,sold it dirt cheap,it was a couple simple cheap fixes.

So im wanting to mod it,before i registered on the forum here I read a lot, great write up by the one feller, big break down of mods, lots of info. For this car I am all about bang for the buck like build your own CAI and buying used parts when possible.

Its a matter of choosing the right parts in the right order.Im about to order a set of OBX headers, also want to know if pulleys are the same as the magnacharger radix pulleys, ive got several of them. Also has anyone found a reasonable priced pulley remover?what im seeing are over priced for whats there. How about down pipes? anyone know were to find the best dealeo on one?,catless if fine, plan for a tune, Thanks for now, excited about your responce's, yes search button is me friend, which i will keep on.

youre gonna hate yourself if you order OBX headers. they dont fit. everyone is recently going for speed daddy headers.

they are not the same as radix pulleys. rent the pulley puller from ZZP, it's the easiest way. get their pulley system as well.

if you get headers they come with a downpipe.

now, if you really want to go there, tell us how much money youre willing to spend and how much power youre looking to produce in the end. we can give great recommendations on a parts list to shoot for.

I was reading one mod guide that says the first thing you should by is a scan tool or a tuner with a scanner, that way you can watch your KR.

I got in an argument on another forum about this a few days ago. Personally I don't think you HAVE to get a scanner until you are ready to drop pulleys such as getting headers and a CAI first, but that's just me.

That's a true story. KR will make or break you and my scan gauge has been my best friend in my Monte. scgonzo, once we have an idea of your budget/goals, we'll be all set to help out

I would rather know what's going on with my car than not, and learning how to tune when you're less modded will keep you from messing your car up later when you do something wrong with more mods.

Speed Daddy headers can be found on ebay for around $200 shipped.

The order to buy things is listed in the modding writeup which can be found in my sig.

Hey guys great start, thanks to all who responded.Good info on the OBX,almost pulled trigger but didnt .Good news on the go daddy headers() i will look for them $200 better than $300 for obx or $360 pacesetters.

Anyways yes, the other day I ran it hard with scan tool no KR. running mid grade bone stock.

I want to hear who you recommend for a mail order tune gm3800 sounds like they do a good job.I have EFI live V2 but it doesnt do me any good.

How much to spend? question i cant answer yet,not sure how much I like the car yet.for now I will say $500-$600 headers, tune ,pulley, mid pipe? home made cai.

Thanks, keep the posts comming. PS I live at 3500' elev and it was 20* temp and like i said no KR,SOB ran great and loved the cold air

You are the feller i was reffering to in my first post. I had skimmed over your reporting in that post. Then re-read it a couple times since. Its exactly the recipes i and others were looking for to make good modding decisions. Thanks for all your efforts on that posting and all your other postings, kudos to you and the others that really know there **** about these cars and not affraid to share.I will never take this to the track but a goal would be to make this car capable of running low 13s

    I COULD GET THERE!

I need to read up on cam install,i gather engine needs to come out? Has anyone cut a hole in inner to get cam out?Since this is a $500 car would be the only reason I would consider cutting.

you can drop the subframe and have fun.

or you can pull the engine and have an overall easier and less akward install.

I wouldn't mind seeing a fender delete for the sake of a cam install.
