not gonna make this a big ol thread about random turbo and how to this and that. im just looking for personal choices on different types of turbos for a l67.
The common used units in the 3800 world are
t3/t4 62-1
t3/t4 GT35
t4 60-1
t4 t66
t4 t-67
holset hx35 or hx40(6-7 blade would be best)
As far as personal choice, it would depend on the rest of the setup.
If you need help choosing, post the rest of your setup(cam, injectors, fuel type, intake manifold style, if your intercooling, which turbo kit) and Im sure we can help find the right unit to fit your needs.
heads would also play a part in this.
Also if you wanted to go twincharged or just turbo.
well, as of now the setup would be on just the stock motor. ill be upgrading the injectors to 42.5lb, upgrading the fuel pump aswell. ill be doing the fab work and stuff for the turbo myself so i will not be buying a kit. i will A2A intercool. Im not sure if im going to do my VS cam and RR's before. all depends on if i pick up a new motor first or if i just do this on the one installed.
edit--- well matt from what iv read on this forum and others twin charging is more hassle then what its worth. if it is harder to tune, i dont know how i would go about that. only locals i know that have tuned turbos to begin with are all jdm's
Go with a proper sized turbo then. You should be able to make more than enough power that way.
what is a proper sized turbo? from what iv read alot of people have gone with the 62-1.
The 62-1 that was offered with the z7 kit is a solid option that has been reliable to make 400whp and still spool quickly for daily driving. If its just a stock motor and a VS cam(unless its a set of 1.8 ratio, use stock rockers) you would be fine with t3/t4 62-1. If you find another turbo that you are thinking about using post up the specs and we can help you decide if it would be a good option.
