Re: phil's build thread... unforseen issues
so after a huge fight with my dad, this build needs to be done yesterday. i put the stock cat-back on tonight after some "fabrication" on the rusted in bolts with a torch and a BFH. cut my hand to sh!t too, but it's a little quieter. you can hear yourself think when you sit in it.
i also switched out the coil packs for the ones that i took off the car. still sounded a little off, but no SES light. of course it was only on for a minute or so, but i'll play with it some more tomorrow. i'm driving it, suspended license be damned

Could be...but I doubt it...

Regardless of all of this Philly boy...do you have a scanner...or someone close that does?
Re: phil's build thread... unforseen issues
I have one but i'm around an hourish away.
Re: phil's build thread... unforseen issues
buying one from a member on this site as we speak. well, i drove it, still no SES light but i'm not convinced it's not missing. and there's a vacuum leak somewhere, i heard a little whistling noise. and, on the first time out, a heater core line came off and i lost all my coolant. so i have a ton of things i need to inspect
Re: phil's build thread... unforseen issues
At least you got to drive it a little bit.
Re: phil's build thread... unforseen issues
that part was nice. the exhaust note however... eeewwwwww
Re: phil's build thread... unforseen issues
re-did the vac lines on top of the motor. helped the surging idle some and kept the P0300 code from appearing. then i got smoke coming from the front bumper/radiator area (?????) and turned it off after 10 mins or so. waited a few, started it warm, surging idle came back and code was set. wtf could this be...
Re: phil's build thread... unforseen issues
What have you done so far to try to fix it?
Re: phil's build thread... unforseen issues
not much lol. 93 octane gas, fuel injector cleaner, replaced coil packs with ones that i know work, plugs are new, wires are the ones that came off the car, sealed up the vacuum lines. next chance i get i'll be spraying carb cleaner around the intake manifold looking for vac leaks there. if that's not it, it's gotta be fuel related. either a bad regulator, filter, or multiple bad injectors. they sat for a really long time. it's just weird that it won't keep a steady idle, but it's consistent in it's unsteady idle, know what i mean?
Re: phil's build thread... unforseen issues
have you checked your fuel pressure?
Re: phil's build thread... unforseen issues
no, no gauge :( all i have as far as diagnostic equipment is my code reader, and between it not running right and a suspended license, i can't take it anywhere. i need a tuner, or at least a scanner, but funds are tight
Re: phil's build thread... unforseen issues
put in an upstream oxygen sensor in hopes of giving the pcm better fuel readings. obviously that wasn't it since it misses in open loop, but i figure i'll need it anyways. i'm running out of things that aren't internal. i'd love to put a scanner on it to watch a misfire counter, MAP and MAF readings, spark, ignition timing... but the tech2 stays at work, which i can't get the car to. i'm left with a fuel pressure regulator or faulty injectors, possibly a bad rail going by how long it sat. maybe a vac leak around the injectors, i can test that. but outside of that, it's going to be a leakdown test to check valve seating, and then re-timing the cam, neither of which i want to do
