I will be changing out the 1.9 rockers and going to a cam over the next couple months.

Intake or Exhaust lift won't exceed .536. What valvetrain mod's are required. I have read previous threads and understand the shift points will be raised above 6k but am confused as to what supporting valvetrain mods are needed.

Spring retainers for increased lift - makes sence.
Lifters - yes/no rev limit based??
    Springs - comp = bad / crow = good? ls6, 90# or 105#?
Timing chain - Rollmaster breaks? stock is preferred?!?

why wont it exceed .536? what cam are you going to run and why?

    - springs and retainers are a given, you know that
    - lifters, stock are fine, no reason to upgrade these unless you like listening to loud aftermarket lifters or setting money on fire
    - 105# for a cam on stock heads
    - stock has never broken, but youll have accelerated tensioner wear because of the springs and cam. replace it every 20-30k and itll be fine. only run a double roller if you want to set it and forget it. the only breaks are from installation errors.

the s1x or XP, I am not going turbo and I do not want to change the heads.

Some posts mention comp springs breaking and to go with crow, any validation to this?

comp springs are probably fine now, but a little while back there was a pretty decent track record of 105# springs breaking. crows have never had this issue.

also, if youre going for a cam on stock heads, ever think of running a VS? you can make about the same amounts of power as an xp or s1x without having to run heavy valve spring and it will be a more DD friendly cam considering it doesnt lope very much and it'll have more mid-range.

Right, and saving you tons of cash not having to yank off and replace the valve springs, retainers, chain, and dampner...although I always do recommened a new chain and dampner anyways when doing a cam because your stocker is probably worn.

As for the XP...I DD'd it for over a year and had no issues, hell i even drove it in the snow. I had LS6 (#90) Springs/Retainers and they worked great. Only issue I had with those were with the dampner...it was pretty toasted after 40K when I yanked the XP out for my Thrasher Cam/Double Roller setup.

S1X is going to need springs/retainers and a new timing chain/dampner.

hey not to step on any ones toes but i cant recall exactly remember the post but Paul with prj designed a cam that was meant to be used with ratio rockers.. i don't remember what ratio it was meant for but it was said it had great power numbers and people were really happy with it... i was wanting to go with it but didn't want to spend the extra $$$ for the rockers to go with it... you might want to shoot him a email and ask for specific info about it... just another cam to think about....

    Not true.

105 springs are not enough for S1x or XP cam's.

Not true though...if they were designed for it why are smaller or even larger lift IS3's being run with offset or 1.7's?

They are still designed to work with the stock rockers, you can run higher ratio rockers with some, but they wall work with the stock ratio.

I ran a XP with a stock chain/dampner for over 40K with no ill effects with just #90 LS6 springs/retainers...so not sure where that info came from. Now I have #130's/Titanium retainers/Double Roller with my Thrasher cam...

I've been leaning toward the S1X cam and Intense recommends only 105# springs. I don't believe everything vendors say so I am wondering why you recommend more than Intense does on their cam?

Quote from Intense: "The Stage 1X Cam is the IDEAL aftermarket cam for use with stock heads, lifters, rocker arms, retainers, and pushrods. Aftermarket lifters, pushrods, and retainers are not necessary at this level, but there are certain reliability and performance gains to be had by replacing these items during your cam change. We always recommend and/or install CompCams 105# valvesprings with this camshaft."

That advice, along with Intense is old and lacking. Comp springs suck, you need matching retainers...and if your going to be revving it...you NEED to upgrade to #130's with a Double Roller.
