2004 gtp

Hi Everyone!!

I am looking at a 2004 GTP with 144,000 miles. The thing ran and drove great, not to mentioned stopped on a dime!!

It's at a local used car dealer here that sells them AS IS. It does have some minor dents in the quarter panels so it is not mint, but the interior is in great shape. It also has the power moon roof and great tires.

When I came back from test driving another car, someone else was looking at it. He was talking about the supercharger was only good for 120,000 miles and this one hadn't been replaced so it was going to need work soon. The car sounded great. Does he know what he is talking about?

I know nothing about these and any advice would be greatly appreciated. I am looking at it for my 20 year old son and I need something fairly economical and reliable. They are asking $5400 for it. Good deal or bad deal?

a supercharger will last the life of the car no problem, the only that really ever happens is the COUPLER in side the snout needs to be chagned because it will start ratttleing. IF you change the oil in the supercharger on a regular basis you will be fine, like 40k or so.

honestly you could probably run the coupler up to 80-100k before it actually started causing problems if you had a poly one. the hard plastic ones they come with stock arent as nice.

2004 GTP is good for modifying and tuning. It will probably need some suspension replacements and fluid changes. I would be most concerned about the transmission - as long as it drives without any clunking or slipping, you should be golden.

Its unreal how I keep hearing about this rumor out there that S/C's last only 120k or so on Grand Prix's. I see many people here asking because they were told that from someone, and in this thread someone is saying that so-and-so at the used car dealer said S/C's go bad.

I guess the word spreads from SC couplers start to rattle to...SC's "go out" on these cars. Be careful.

If anything use it as something to haggle the price down.

Thanks for all the replies.

I figured those of you with experience were the ones to ask, not listen to some guy in a parking lot who doesn't have one, that's why I asked.

I just have no knowledge of the supercharger and wanted to make an informed decision.
