I personally like a box, since it helps keep some heat out, which there's quite a lot of heat underhood now since I installed my headers.

My only thought on an open cone would to be to try to get it closer to the fender/headlight, and try to get it closer to that cold air/away from the hot air.
So quick question on this one, new and trying to learn as much as possible, is it possible to keep the stock box and,and some how make it as as a frre flowing box, like the one in your sig with the plexi on top?

yeah you can cut it if you want. except probably cant use the stock air filter if thats what you want. but people have modded the stock airbox to go with a conical filter.

My stock air box from my 1998gtp has 2 90 degree bends, and corrugated tubing, why on earth would you want to use this setup?
