Re: Best gains for dropping $2000 into a GTP
Ya man if your tranny took a crap at only 90,000 and all you had done to it was a downpipe and intake (which gains are not noticable at all by themselves, I would know I have the same mods) Then you either had no fluid in it, never changed the fluid and filter, and/or did really dumb stuff like neutral drops. Idk I am curious to know what the reason is that your tranny died so young.
BTW once again another massive expense is added to the list of things that you need with a turbo setup. If you guys think that my tranny will crap out with an intercooled supercharger making around 280WHP or so what the hell do you think is going to happen when you turbocharge the sob and make upwards of 325whp??? So now our cheap and simple turbo option isnt so cheap and simple anymore.
Re: Best gains for dropping $2000 into a GTP
Like i said, turbo does not kill transmissions. Power does. Besides, if you have a high mileage transmission it probably needs to be gone through anyways. Turbo or not.
Re: Best gains for dropping $2000 into a GTP
If you beat on a blown car, turbo car...or even a modded N/A car...there is always a chance it'll break. Hell what do you tell the stupid GT guys with a downpipe, cold air, and a tune making MAYBE 190 FWHP that toast trannys? It doesn't matter...it can happen to anyone at anytime...sh!t...I had countless 1.8 60's with COBRA slicks (275's) on the stock trans...and I didn't even have it serviced and it lasted...I just happened to have money at one point and bought a Triple Edge Transmission since I know I was going to go pretty far with the car that way I wouldn't have to worry about it later. If I have to do it all over again...transmission is the first thing I would buy...that way I wouldn't have to worry about throwing whatever sort of power at it.
Re: Best gains for dropping $2000 into a GTP
The cheap turbo setup can stay cheap if you buy stock replacement trannies! lol
I guarantee you will be more then satisfied with sub 300whp dude.
I don't blame the mods, I blame the drivers ;)

THIS.
Re: Best gains for dropping $2000 into a GTP
No, no, no. Turbo setups cost 7k. Thats the end of it.

Front Mount, IC piping, Race transmission, turbo itself, all the needed exhaust work, UIM, TB, tuning, lines, head work, cam...granted you do all the work yourself I'd say if you put it together it would be cheaper...but if you buy it from a vendor...I'd say $7,000 isn't out of the question.

Re: Best gains for dropping $2000 into a GTP
Ill have 1k in my setup minus tranny.

lol...
So a proper kit is the best of everything brand new? In that case buddy your looking around 10k.
Oh and would you drop the race trans bs dude. The 15/16th chain is a fking joke. The 7/8th isn't much better. Until an alternative to the 1" GMR chain is found they're are no "race trans". But then again people think that 300whp cars are "race cars" so ya its all relative. The only chain setup that hasn't broken on a GP is the 1" GMR. So why drop 3-4k on a trans that WILL break?
The alternative's are available but you have to modify the drive sprocket to use.
7/16 Sprocket/Chain Set and the 3/8 sprocket/chain set
But they have yet to be implemented in a 4t65e trans
Now I will say this your idea of a proper turbo setup is ridiculous dude. Then again some people like to drop 2x or more what they're car is worth to make it go lol.

http://www.tripleedgeperformance.com..._shaft.2_x.jpg4T65E Hardened 4th Clutch Shaft $64.95
This is a new aftermarket 4th Clutch hub/shaft. The spines on the end are heat treated to prevent them from wearing and stripping out which is a very big problem in these transmissions and will cause no 4th gear. GM started using heat treated shafts around 2003, so if your trans is older it will not have this and is highly recommended to install during a rebuild.
http://www.tripleedgeperformance.com...ut_shaft_x.jpg 4T65E Upgraded Input Shaft $449.99
The stock input shaft is pretty much the first major weak link in the 4T65E and once you reach roughly 300whp it is only a matter of time before it will break and leave you stranded. We sell and install Intense Racing input shafts which are rated to aprox 500+whp and are a vast improvement over the OE part. Not only are these input shafts thicker and made of a stronger material than the stock piece but also have many revisions throughout including improved O-ring groove, new lube diverter tube installed, reduced slop on sprocket splines, and improved oil feed holes. These shafts are manufactured with extremely high quality and finish and made by the same company who makes the GM Racing team input shafts for their race transmissions.
http://www.tripleedgeperformance.com...-78singl_x.jpg 4T65E 7/8" Single Chain Conversion Set $299.95
The stock dual chain setup works great but once you start making power above roughly the 325whp mark and make frequent track passes, especially with slicks, they will fail and break which leaves you stranded. These single chain conversion kits use a Borg / Morse HyVo 7/8" chain and estimated ratings are 400-450 WHP depending on application.

Yeah...sorry...you turbo car is god and I wasted 2 grand on a stock transmission from Triple Edge Performance...no sarcasm there your holiness.

Re: Best gains for dropping $2000 into a GTP
A supercharged setup will be more reliable than a turbo charged setup. Theirs no debating his fact as turbos will always have more failures because of RPM of the compressor. When you factor that in plus the addition of oil lines, coolant lines and a host of vacuum lines, theirs always more chance for problems to occur.
If you want a strong setup that is relatively reliable, your best bet is to get a GOOD intercooler and drop down to a 3.0 pulley. But some 42 lbs injectors for the increased fuel which will be needed and but a modded fuel rail or Billet fuel rails if you feel the need which cost about $250 more. Purchase a set of headers for your exhaust needs and you should be good to go
$1300 for full intercooler setup
$350 headers
$150 Fuel Rail
$150 42 lbs injectors
$100 Modular Pulley setup
Those prices are all listed generally new or high used price, so you can get things considerably cheaper. If you determine at a later date you want more power, you can throw on some rockers or go a mild cam setup.
You have to ask yourself 2 things. What time are you shooting for and how much are you realistically going to spend. If your shooting for anything better than 12's your better going turbo. If you comfortable in the 12's, supercharger is the way to go.

Where in my post did I sound arrogant for you to post that lol. And when in the hell did I ever talk about my car lol?
I'm sorry if I consider ZZP's TTGT, Intense's TGP, and Flip flops regal to be race cars and not some sub 400whp street cars...
Don't get me wrong ZZP' and TEP's trans are hella good. But I just don't trust those chains.
Re: Best gains for dropping $2000 into a GTP
As far as what I would be satisified with? I would me more than happy in the mid to upper 12's, even lower 13's. I do not plan on making this thing an all out drag or race car. I am going to save that for something from the late 60's when I get a steady income job down the line.
I see you added up those mods and they come to $2050, what about the computer side of things? I live in MN so there aren't really any tuning shops around here. The only one I've heard of wants like $500 to do a dyno tune, and Idk what there reputation is at all.
Why did you include a link to headers which are no longer available? Wasn't there a thread about those speed daddy's earlier? They are either sold out or there gonna come back selling them for twice as much.

all you need is a well tuned supercharged setup to run high 12s. you dont even need a cam or an intercooler if youre really good at driving.
Re: Best gains for dropping $2000 into a GTP
^^Agreed. Stage 2 IC, injectors, tiny pulley...probably a 3.0" like said earlier, and maybe even modded 1.9's shifting at 6K with a good tune and headers...sounds like 12's to me.

I may be an oddball for thinking like this but I would like to make something different than what the crowd is making. Just to be different. Sounds like turbochargers are all the rave these days. Last time I was on here barely anyone was talking about them. Then something else will come out that will be better than turbocharging. How about a procharger? All the benefits of a turbocharger and a supercharger combined.
i kinda agree with you, but the reason i prefer a supercharger over turbo is because i prefer the whine of the supercharger over the constant blow off of a turbo...
