"Hardly. Just pointing it out...I wasn't the one that said you gain 15 horsepower on a catback on a 3.1 car...you sure are funny...keep em coming junior"
Same question for you being all experienced and the self appointed answer man, do you have personal experience with this conversion? Yes or no will suffice?
Why would I need experience when none is needed on a motor that makes no power even modded. Hell the TURBO 5-spd 3.1's back in the early 90's only ran 15's...hardly fast. Also...you don't need to test sh!t out to know that going from a single outlet, single downpipe car to a dual exhaust setup with the same exiting situation, eg. single DP...is going to make you anymore power than a bigger, single outlet catback...and if you do...then your stupid. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that out. But...since your all knowing and have dyno sheets to prove it...you win. Oh...you don't have dyno sheets? Just magical numbers...same as before. You WONT gain 15, or 10...MAYBE 5 horsepower for that matter...with a bigger downpipe, no cat, and a single outlet style exhaust...but claiming you gain more from Y-ing something off is ridiculous...that's like saying if I put another center exit exhaust on my GTP I'll net 5 more horses. Sorry, isn't happening.
"Converting a car to dual exhaust with a single outlet downpipe is just stupid anyways...LOL if you think you get more power with a "Y" pipe and two mufflers when it is all still coming from the same SINGLE OUTLET DOWNPIPE"
I hate to tell you, chief, but you are wrong on this one! The limiting factor on any exhaust is the down pipe diameter, yes, but if the the system beyond that single down pipe has any restriction in it like a single restrictive muffler coupled with a single pipe after the cat, anything that increases the flow after the downpipe and reduces the restiction will help with power assuming that the downpipe diameter is not maximizing the flow for a given engine. On the other hand, if the car originally has a single downpipe with appropriate sized y pipe and mufflers, then switching to a larger more free flowing cat back system will have a minimal effect on the engines output, aka a GT/GTP. Conversely, taking a single downpipe of appropriate diameter or a front y pipe and running the exhaust through a single pipe of a larger enough diameter will produce power equivalent to a true dual exhaust. Physics here, no heresay! Sorry to disappoint!
Keep thinking that...and when I'm running door to door with you in my '07 Cobalt with the same horsepower and no mods...you'll go home crying. Afterall...even with all this time in your race car you still have no dyno sheets to prove your gains...why not go on 60* V6 where the 3.1 and 2.8 are popular and tell them the same thing you just told me? I bet you'll get laughed out of there too just like your getting the job done here.
Do I win? Sweeet...yay VTEC fake dual exhaust SE 3.1 FAIL.
Nah...dyno proven for 45. TO THE EXHAUST TIPS. I asked the guy how he got his findings...I mean...I'd claim 15 horse on a pulley drop...or 15 horse on a catback for a STi or Evo...but not these cars...especially the 3.1 which only makes like MAYBE 140 to the tire stock...and that is being nice. Also...I just asked for dyno sheets...if he had them...then I'd eat my words and agree with him...but I'd bet a million bucks he'll never get it dyno'd because he knows himself the puny numbers it'll put out.
From the thirdgeneration forum:
"Re: 91 firebird 3.1L V6....more hp and acceleration?
If your not mechanically skilled, you can upgrade the exhaust(headers, catback exhaust, and hi flow cats)
Also upgrade your air intake as well as try and get rid of all the smog crap(find yourself a local inspector so you'll pass)"
Would you like to eat crow, now or later?
So where does it say the hp gains in your post smart ass? It doesnt.
Just for the record, I am not racing my GP, just trying to increase driveability! If I want to go racing on the street, which I don't, I would be drving a G8, GTO, G35 sedan or coupe, or IS350, and would definitely not even bother with a 97-03 GP of any type. Those Japanese cars and many others, all have over 300+HP stock. It's ok do have a differing opinion, isn't it? Or maybe, I would be wrong about that here!
You cant back up your statement, so you go from hp numbers to just wanting better drive ability.
