Hi, im new to the forums and overall new to the GTP scene. I own a 97 GTP

When i start up the car, the inside of the car fills up with an oily smokey smell. It looks like the car is burning oil. I checked through the maintenance records that i recieved from the seller and it shows that he has had the front valve covers replaced due to a recall. The smoke is coming from the back of the engine. What could this be?

It's likely the rear valve cover. If it's smoking that bad I wouldn't run it or drive it at all. Probably needs the top end rebuilt with new gaskets too.

Lets not get to carried away here. Top end rebuilt with new gaskets?

I think replacing the rear rocker gasket will solve your problem. Oil is leaking down onto the exhaust manifold and smoking. The intake for the blower motor is right their so naturally its going to pull some of that smell into the car. If you can do the work yourself its a cheap fix.
