What point does the U-Bend serve? I know its good to get it out of the way, but are there any side effects to it? The only mod I have right now is a custom air intake (Which I'll be redoing SOON)

And its just: Take it out and replace with 3" piping?

stock is 2.5 in piping i believe... its very restrictive and is one of the first mods u should do... if u plan to mod heavily get headers... if u plan some minor bolt on mods.. get a 3 in downpipe it has u bend deleted already. no side effects...do u have a GTP or GT? also read this 5 times... http://www.grandprixforums.net/f81/s...car-17482.html

I know, I've read that a ton, but I was just wondering if, with only an air intake, it would have some nasty side effects.

    whats it there for anyways.....?

So... just take it to an exhaust shop and say "Take this out, put piping in"?

Like gtpinsc said, Gm and their wonderful location for the o2 sensor. Go to a good exhaust shop, tell them you want the u-bend in the exhaust taken out and a straight piece put in place. They will match the correct size pipe to weld in place. You cant miss it when you look under the car. This will get you around 5hp and the car will breath better! Shouldn't cost more than $25 30 bucks.

I agree, but I'm paying off the new tranny I got, so 100 is a big deal to me at this point, where as 20-25 or whatever is doable

If you have a GTP save for headers! You won't be dissapointed. Downpipes \ ubend deletes and plogs are a waste of money if you're going to mod your car at all for performance. The money you will spend on all three of those things you could have a decent set of headers for.

u gotta get the headers...don't do any mods till u get enough for the headers, they'll replace the factory crap(down pipe and u bend)..^^^blue had a good post on headers(knock off kind).. by the time u do ubend delte and d/p and then plog, u would;ve already paid for headers....the u bend was for o2 clearance--yeah, gm, great idea!

    Also, thinking ahead:

Would you probably need the same mods to run a 3.5 pulley as yo would a 3.4? Or would you be able to run a 3.5 with slightly fewer mods? Like a CAI/Plugs/T-stat and u-bend?

I dont want to blow up my car either, but if I dont absolutly HAVE to have headers for a 3.5, I might do that as well. I probably wont take my car lower than 3.4 ever. I'll probably get a Trans AM sooner than that xD

Why does everyone think the pulley drop is GOD?

A tuned GTP with a u-bend delete and a fenderwell and a T-Stat will run circles around one with those same mods and a 3.5" minus the tune...or hell...a custom tuned BONE STOCK car will eat a 3.5" car for lunch. Get supporting mods before being ignorant dropping pulley sizes. Buy headers up front and be done...that way you wont have to pawn off the PLOG/DP when you need more flow.

I dont think a pulley drop is god, and I've read that post multiple times about modding my car. Clearly I'll be getting a tune, but I'll eventually be going for a 3.4 pulley, but I at least want to get it started
