Ok, so. Friday my '97 GTP started, ran, everything fine. Monday morning not so much, it sat for the weekend. I had to crank it for 5/10 seconds two to three times before it finally fired up and revved to 1000 rpms (where it normally goes to warm up) Then a few seconds later it splutters, coughs and dies. Starting the second time is easier. It revs to where it should be, pauses there to give me false hope, and dies again. So I start it again and this time whenever it tries to die I feather the gas pedal till it revs up and stops sputtering. Once the engine is warmer it stops trying to die, but the idle is rough, and it bogs pretty badly while I'm driving it. Although I'm not sure bogging is the right word, maybe hesitating. It doesn't want to speed up from a stop for a bit or unless I really put my foot into it and convince it to move. It also randomly bogs a bit while at a more constant speed.
This morning it did the same thing, hard start, and trying to die on me. I revved it to 3000 and held it there until the engine had had a chance to warm up a bit. Didn't try dying after it was warm but the same rough idle and hesitating/bogging happened while driving.
It drives smoother and starts easier when warmed up a bit, and we've been having rather wet and cold mornings recently.
I replaced the starter about half an hour ago (it started ok after that, but tomorrow morning is the real test) but it's still got a rough/uneven idle.
I'll check the MAF, TPS and spark plugs/coilpack tomorrow when there's light, but if it was any of those, wouldn't it be throwing a code? So far it hasn't thrown any codes.
I'll let you know what I find out, but in the meantime, any ideas?
