I just bought my 97 GTP. Cheap car, hopefully will last a while. What are the weaknesses of these. I have a few problems, mostly electrical like no fog lights, sunroof won't move. What should I be watching for. I have never owned a car with a power adder. What are the easiest ways to get a few more horses?

^Agree. Transmission can give you some problems, but if it was taken car if you should be fine for a while. Weaknesses mechanically, they are some. But the 3800 is a bulletbroof motor. Like badbrad said do some searching & look at the stickies & you will find what you need. Welcome to the forum BTW.

Oh & with your sunroof, check you track & see if they are greased. If it not that, it could be a bad motor/gear. Fog light check your fuses & relays
176K Miles, Things Done: 25K Tranny, VC & LIM Gaskets Replaced, synthetic fluids all around.

It also couldn't hurt to check our fog light bulbs...

Transmission, intake gaskets, water seal under the cowl on the pass side, window regulators, rockers rot off, strut mounts, both sway bars, oil pan gaskets, rack and pinion, and few others but those are the most common off the top of my head, and welcome!
F clean cars, I Ride Dirty!.....to hide the wicked body damage...

i have a 98 gtp with 152000 and no problems, my friend has a 98 gtp with 190000 and has only had to replace a waterpump. main thing is keep the maintenance up on them. trans fluid changes oil etc. they are really great cars if you dont overly abuse them.

the intake gaskets are junk also. mainly because of the dexacrap coolant. mustangs are the same. i'd replace lim gaskets (if needed or unsure) and swap to the regular cheaper antifreeze, also clean out the coolant reservoir....a good tune or tuner will wake up the car and the trans setting are adjusted and make it much more driverfriendly and capable....i bought mine with 175k and now have 218k. new motor going together on the stand soon. o.p. leaks like a muthu. some replace the op gasket in car but i;ll wait and do new motor sometime.
