I have a 1997 Grand Prix with a 3800 supercharger engine. Was driving and the car just died. Hooked a gauge to check the fuel pump preesure and upon start up it read 40-50 psi and then the pressure slowly starts to drop and finally the cars stalls. I bought the car used and was told by the owner that he changed the fuel pump but the fuel filter was not brought up, so my question is should I change the filter first before the pump? And also is there a way to do a check out of the pump? And what about the resistors and relays I been reading about whats a good way to check those out?

fuel filters are cheap, replace that first then go for the Big $$$$$ items next. Cances are that when the first pump was replaced it stirred up crud in the tankand got pumped to an already clogged filter. The slowly reducing pressure means eaither a bad pump or the filter gets clogged as it runs choking off the flow. Good luck
