Ok, my car has a 180* Tstat in it, as well as a digital HP stage 1 pcm.
Is there a traditional style thermostat that makes the car run cooler, or is the "180* stat" just telling the computer to kick the fans on sooner?
Its 10*F here in ohio, and I can here my radiator fans kicking on constantly, and my needle is barely off the peg, makes no sense to me.
I am getting a check engine light because the coolant temp is "below the threshold" and I cant pass an e-check until I get this fixed, and I am now on my last temporary tag, lol, I have 1 week to get it to pass.

    Thanks

The 180 tstat opens at 180* allowing the car to run cooler the fans kick on due to programing in the pcm that tells them to kick on at 180* its all about helping a modded car run cooler

As for your problem no clue i havent had any issues with that code or a check engine light due to the temp

180 thermo opens at 180* and allows coolent to flow thru. you can try putting the stock 195* thermo back in.

ive resently raised my fan settings back up, i was tired of waiting forever for the car to get up to operating temps. plus the heat
dident work as good then :/

you can try putting the stock thermo back in, but the fans are still gonna run when there supposed to be turned on (its in the tune, you can adjust at what coolent temp the fans come) or you can find someone with a tuner to adjust when the fans come on.

The ECU/fans/t-stat all work together to keep the engine at the desired level. the t-stat is mechanical and will begin to open up once the coolant reaches 180*. The PCM will tell the fans to kick on for additional cooling. The fans are controlled by the PCM. The stock PCM is set to kick the fans on at the factory setting of 195-197*. The DHP PCM can be programmed to kick the fans on at 180* to work with the lower temp t-stat. I have the same setup you have and my temp gauge sits middle ways between 160* and the first large mark. I'm not sure about your DTC. Never seen that one. Maybe someone here knows more about that part of it. Try having a local parts store clear SES codes if you don't have a scanner and give it a couple days and see if the SES comes back on. Might just be a one time error. It happens.

The car would get up to operating temps faster with the lower thermostat.

Ha yes, but they would be 'lower operating temps'
Yeah, I have cleared out the codes but they come back in a few days. The light will actually shut off by itself if I let it go long enough.
I will probably just pickup a stock Tstat from autozone and throw it in to help my emissions for the test, since ive already failed twice, then put the 180* back in after so I dont kill my fans.
    Thanks for the education!

I give help where I can, when someone else has not gotten to it.

So, your car gets to 195 faster than it gets to 180?

ahh, okay i see what your getting at. i miss read. my bad.

to me, operating temps is not 180, its as close to 200 or above as i can get. i dont care to run a cooler block, there is not much benifets from it. that and a value my heat, the heater core is ran off the coolent, i like to keep the coolent going into that as high as possible.

the reason my car was taking so long to get up to operating temps is because i had the fan setting turned on before the t stat would open and it wasent really helping. i would pretty much have to drive my car to get it up to the temps i wanted it, thus cranking the car up and sitting there waiting for the heat to get hot was not happening.

yes it would get up to 180 faster than 195.

Ah ha! Very cool, thank you for the clarification...we had a mis-communication on the term "operating temperature. Time from start-up to 180°, faster; time from start up to 200°, much slower. I do understand your issue with running fans sooner, as well.

We are one of the lucky 6 or 7 counties that have to get it.....

Just to update you all, I passed my echeck with a few bottles of rubbing alcohol and dry gas in the tank with about 3 gallons of gas. She ran great, and passed with flying colors!!!
and yes... I diluted it out immediately after the test with a full tank of gas
