The way I usually isolate the noise is with a engine stethescope (sp?). it has a long solid piece of wire that you can touch to different components to isolate which one is making the noise. Then you can drive to the parts store without having to put the belt back on!
A nice long screwdriver works too. cheaper and easier to find, just hold it right to your ear and it acts almost as a stethoscope. Lol
