I have been looking into rebuilding my heads and dropping in a cam. But I'm not sure what my best option would be. This will be my DD so drivability is a +. What I will have done is: full headers, methinol injection, 3.4, intake, p+p on charger, and p+p on rebuilt heads, along with supporting KR reducers, and E85. What would you guys suggest cam wise?
'01 GTP mods: K&N intake, autolite 104's, drilled 180*, !u-bend, !EGR, ported s/c, polished heads and TB and a LOT more whine
'99 firebird mods (1 of 6): LS1 swap, custom exhaust, LS6 IM, RA intake, and a few suspension parts

You say full headers...can you by a half header somewhere?

I say call Paul at PRJ and have him make you a bad somebish...if not there...then a S1X or XP...I DD'ed a XP for over a year and still got over 25mpg's on the highway if I was nice to it...

DO NOT get a NIC. thats just stupid.

first off, get some more **** on your car before you think you want to go this expensive route of having a cammed GP. a rockered, e85 car WILL run 12s so long as the guy behind the wheel isnt an idiot.

if youre really looking into a cam to DD and not have driveability issues youre going to want a cam that you can run on stock heads. that means: s1x, XP, or VS. you do not want to run a NIC because it will be way too much for you since youre clearly getting way ahead of yourself. its nice to make future plans, but its another to say youre going to do all of this. i was close enough to have everything in my posession to do a big cam build and then sold it all because i didnt feel like the work and hassle it was going to be running a car with that much in the motor EVERYDAY on the street.

    ^^ NO SH!T.

XP or S1X...end of story...or if you ever plan on going intercooled...get a VS...it is a great IC cam and not very aggressive so it'll make better than stock but still retain that driveability you want...the S1X/XP might be too rough for you but I loved it...because you never know what Corvette you might have to show wtf is up with your whining 5 year old under the hood.

basically, i love cams as well and a slightly rough idle is ok. i just dont want a massive cam. and as long as i can get 25mpg being easy on i thats ok. i dont plan to go IC just the meth/E85

not a smaller cam by any means. that cam is a freakin giant and will not get good gas mileage or make hella power. it just sounds cool.

I'd be shocked if that cam did better than 20mpg's cruising on the highway.

Sorta...the TEP cam makes a bunch of power...you've just gotta rev the living god out of it...and by the time your making more HP...you've lost all your torque.

So yeah...I got it because it sounds cool

VS is made for stock everything...that is because it is TINY. The XP requires stronger springs/retainers but you can still use stock heads. The VS isn't as good as the XP IMO...but then again it all depends on how you tune.

I have been at this step for awhile, the best thing to do is find a shop with a connection to comp and then tell them what you want done to your heads and after you get the work done (pnp, mag etc.) have them call comp and get a cam ground to your head it will cost a little more but you should be able to get a quote and if you don't like what you hear just get an xp and be done with it.
