I have a tired 97 GTP, and found a reasonably priced motor/trans combo from an 02 GS. Is this a direct swap, or are there any differences between the two? Anything I should keep/discard one way or the other?

    Thanks in advance!

pretty much a direct swap. you need the wiring harness too since its not the same setup as a 97.

Which harness, the 02? What is different about them?

    are ya talking about Bio?

A 97 had the same sensors etc as a 97 in the same places. The wiring differences were at the pcm. If the 97 harness and pcm are kept intact it should be good, with only one question in my mind. That's the internal vs external range sensor being on the 02. And an external can be added w/o issue so it should be cool.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

maaaaann...kid dont got a GT. ill accept my mistake. again.

but realistically i was saying it right. don't 97 PCMs have a crazy mystery knock problem? i would never use a 97 setup when a 98+ is just as easy to come across.

97's (since we are talking GP's, 96 and 97 if we are talking Bonnies) were the first years. Therefore the programming was new and tuning was needed.

I'm friends with Foghorn, he's one of the guys credited in some of the tuning guides for DHP. Very cool guy, when I wanted to swap my harness from 97 to 99 Paul said to me, Engine wise there's really nothing you can't tune for in the 97 that you can tune for in the 99. His track slips and the sheer amazing tune on his car is proof of that.

Although when you do further research and talk to Dave at TEP, you find out that the TCC PWM tables for the trans are worthy. What's this really saying??? 97 will work just fine, no reason for someone to go through hoops to get the 02 harness etc.

Paul also said that he never saw false KR. All the KR he's ever seen could be tuned, or the bad parts fixed.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

Does this mean all I need to keep 97 is the 02 sensors?? Thanks for the clarification, I'm supposed to start this swap saturday am, kinda a last minute idea/opportunity..

    btw is $600 a decent price for a complete 02 118k motor/trans??

i just put a 2001 Regal GS motor / trans into my 97 GT.

My first plan was to use the motor, engine harness and regal PCM ... but that failed miserably...

So i had to get a 98+ harness, fusebox and PCM and do a bit of custom wiring for the 2 connectors that run over the driver side strut tower...

    C101 and C103 connectors I believe.

the 97GT had the Vac controllled trans so that connector was different.

but if you have the GTP then I think you also have the 4T65HD..right? so you could be just dandy keeping your 97 pcm and harness.

600... if you know the history of the motor.. u can Check prices with Ed Morad if you are not sure. he sells these motors all day long, and you get a month or three warranty.
